I have been to Vietnamese bakeries in Mascot, Marrickville and Bankstown. Popular bakeries that draw crowds from afar. Satisfied most of the time, but sometimes wonder what all the fuss is about I have found alternatives with shorter lines being equally as good (if not better) One alternative is Empress Hot Bread. (Located @ 349 Anzac Pde, Kingsford) First timer in July 2024 Service with a smile, very decent owner/ chef/ baker We both ordered the chicken Banh Mi and left it up to the “chefs” recommendations (re the amount of chilli, hot sauce, salads etc.) Glad we did, it was brilliant! The bread was baked to perfection, crunchy yet so light. The chicken was tasty. Just the correct amount of fresh salad, chilli and liquids. A satisfying mouthwatering lunch @ $8.50 per roll.

They do a very unique chicken nem nuong roll (nem nuong is usually made with pork) which is delicious. The chicken roll and lemongrass chicken are super hefty - crazy generous on chicken, and it's nice, juicy, flavourful (none of that plain shredded chicken). Pate and mayo are in good proportion, only thing is that they use a kind of sweet soy sauce rather than Maggi, so felt like was missing a little something. Bread was lightly crispy. Overall, great banh mi!

Meatball banh mi delicious. Not overly drowned in mayo which was a relief because the ones around Maroubra all seem to be. Highly recommend. Also tried the chicken sausage (nem nuong) because apparently an unusual find but wasn’t my cup of tea - dry and a bit sweet, and I think they forgot chilli in this one. Won’t get again. But loved the meatballs!

Summary: cheap, value, great taste

I have been a regular for over 10 years at Empress Hot Bread. The female co-owner is very pleasant to talk to and remembers all her regulars. The male co-owner is also nice and polite but has sort of limited English so there might be a misunderstanding.

Prices are also cheap and the bread is delicious. If you buy food from here their best goods are their dinner rolls, chicken rolls and their white bread. They also added a stewed chicken filling for rolls about a year ago (early 2017) which is DELICIOUS. Costs only $5 and the rolls are a decent size, so they are great value for money and nutritionally...

Over the last few years I have been a fairly regular customer of empress Hot Bread both before the move to their current location and now a little further up the street. Always a Hello, an attentively make note of my order, as i am a little fussy with my Pork Rolls. The attendant repeats the order to clarify. To me they are one of the best in Sydney that I have tried. Recently we tried their spring rolls. Again as far as my family is concerned they blow the opposition away. The best flavour. Well done, good customer service and good quality and...
