Fontina Woodfire Pizzeria — Restaurant in Sydney

Had high hopes for this place as I'd read the amazing reviews and seen the extensive menus beforehand and was in the mood for a burger so this seemed like the place to go. However, it must have changed hands since those reviews were posted and rather than the menu I was expecting, it was a pretty much entirely Italian menu with only 2 burger options. We were greeted and sat down promptly and that's where the service left us. We waited 20 mins to even order (so sat with no drinks or even table water for that whole time), waited more time to receive our drinks (and still no table water) and then another 25 mins or so to get our food so we felt like we spent most of our time here just waiting.... Don't get me wrong, I don't mind waiting a little for food because I definitely like it freshly cooked and if I've got a drink to enjoy then I'm happy in the company of my party to sit and chat and just relax. So the food wait wasn't what got my back up, it was the fact we'd had to wait so long to even get a drink, let alone order the food. A simple way to keep customers happier is to make sure you get drinks out asap (even if it's just table water) so that people can enjoy that side of it if service is running a bit slow on the food side. We also noticed that other tables were waiting a while for things and had to ask for water and then weren't given glasses, just the bottle of water. When we were seated, the table next to us mentioned they were still waiting on a dish and decided to leave because they'd pretty much finished their other dishes and it still hadn't arrived. Dishes weren't served together for most tables we noticed as well. When our food came it was very tasty, although my burger didn't contain the items stated on the menu and it fell apart pretty much after the first bite so that was disappointing. The pizza was good and when we left we were given an apology for waiting for so long but it wasn't the night we had hoped for and kinda didn't really make up for what we'd experienced. We are regulars at Fontinas and have been for the last few years. We have always said it's the best Pizza in Western Sydney.

On 27th January 2024 we organised a small family get together for 15 ppl for a Birthday. The Birthday Boy's order was taken and as the pizza's and pasta orders were arriving his pasta dish didn't. I went to reorder as it was missed off the original order. Food was flowing and still no pasta. Everyone was almost finished I chased the order again. It eventually came. We were all discussing over many shares dishes that we should do a pizza night once a month to catch up and give the cooks of each family a night off. Everyone agreed it was a great idea! When we were leaving after the cake, we were approached to pay the cakeage. I was in shock as we were regulars, we had brought many different friends and family here over the years. I understand they are running a business but I have to say I was extremely disappointed at the insistence of the waitress we needed to pay $30.00 even though we supplied the cake and after all the money that was spent on food and drinks for the evening, I thought it would be waivered. One of the guys overheard the waitress insisting we have to pay it and kindly stepped in and advised that we didn't even though she kept saying we needed to. This definitely put a damper on the evening especially for the Birthday Boy including the disappointment of his meal arriving so late. I would NEVER order from this restaurant again. Last night I placed and paid ($105.00) for an order through Fontina for dinner through Uber Eats, 1 hour later I received a notification saying that my order had been damaged in transit and would be reordered through the restaurant. I called the restaurant and had a very rude staff member tell me that my order was marked as complete. I tried to explain about the notification and he talked over the top of me and told me I would need to place another order and take it up with uber. He said this was there regular uber driver, I tried contacting the driver but he switched off his phone. I contacted Uber Eats who have refunded me but that will take between 5-10 days and I was left having to order pizza directly with Castle Pizza and pay again but at least they arrived promptly within half an hour.
