I went for lunch last Saturday with a group of 6 ladies. At least 4 of my friends were very put off by either the overcooked warmed up or under-cooked potatoes, so-called baked vegetables. I ordered my usual favourite, which I don't mind paying $25.50 for, which was the Parmesan and herb coated lamb cutlets, which are usually served with 2 or 3 stalks of fresh cooked asparagus, about 4 tiny Dutch carrots, some sugar snap peas and a few green beans, alongside 6 potato rostis (small round hash browns), with a dish of a sauce type gravy. Instead they served my cutlets with the yukky old baked large chunks of carrots, pumpkin, overcooked broccoli and undercooked hard new skin-on potatoes, like everyone else who ordered the special Pork Roast with vegetables. When I commented about the wrong vegetables on my plate, the chef cooked some rostis for me, but it was not the same without the other veggies that were missing. Even the roast pork was grisly, fatty and tough, as I heard from the others. We were all basically disappointed with the quality of our meals. So we didn't bother ordering coffees and left. By the way, there is no longer a Bistro Menu to view on the Forestville RSL website since it was recently updated, maybe the page has dropped out. The Snack Menu opens every time I click on the Bistro Menu. Those tiny seat white painted round Cafe chairs put me off from sitting in the dining area. We can't sit at those long bench tables, as we can't throw our legs over being ladies over 70. I shouldn't have to but I do, carry a wide grey fabric chair over to a long white table out near the glass doors, just to be comfortable sitting to eat a meal with my friends. I'm sure if you get rid of those tiny round seat Cafe chairs and replace them all with wider comfortable chairs similar to those in the DY RSL Bistro and then you might attract more people in your dining areas. Sorry to say, but until we know of some improvements, we've cancelled our next scheduled lunches...
Read moreThis is where The Forest Catering Service run the Bistro catering in the RSL Club. I've recently commented about the quality of the food. Sometimes it's OK, sometimes it's not. Last Saturday, there were 7 of us ladies who had lunch there and we were satisfied about our choices from the menu. I ordered my usual favourite which is parmesan/herb crusted lamb cutlets with honey Dutch carrots, asparagus, sugar snap peas and potato rostis, (gravy/sauce, like vegetable puree, meat juices?), the others had the roast pork with crackle, gravy and roast vegetables, others had fish and chips with a side salad, no complaints from anyone. Dining furniture is another thing. As we're not impressed about the uncomfortable little round white Cafe chairs. I always have to get someone to drag over one of the wider fabric chairs to sit at the dining tables near the glass doors. It is a really lovely friendly RSL Club, it has a pleasant atmosphere, that is why we choose to keep coming back to meet our local friends from around the north shore and northern beaches areas about once a month at your club. Although we are confined to be inside to have our lunch, we like to see the daylight, sunshine and blue sky, the greens and outdoor areas from where we are eating our meal. The long bench seats are fine for younger people to use, but not good for older people as we can't swing our legs over, nor do they have any back support or arm rests. I recall several years ago the club had the older style more supportive chairs for dining. Maybe the managers could think about the comfort of their members and their guests and how comfortable they feel during their time at the club, while they could be sitting in better designed chairs. I know I feel much more comfortable in the wider grey fabric chairs which are usually arranged around a small table as you walk down the ramp into middle of the club, at right near the few lounges and...
Read moreFirst visit since new changes to club. let me say, the club had a bit of a different"vibe". Nice to see plenty of people there. Really liked having dinner delivered to table. Like the new wine list & small & large pours. As always, the staff were very polite & welcoming. Enjoyed my chili prawn linguine, was not spicy at all. Partner's chicken parma was average club food. Floppy KFC like chips. The outside should be crispy.Maybe a bit longer in the fryer or hotter oil? Salad was nice & fresh. We had a glass each of Dune Ridge Cab Merlot in the bar before dinner- really nice.. Ordered a second glass of the same at the little bar in the restaurant. wasn't the same wine at all. Perhaps they poured the wrong thing? not sure as wasn't watching. Rather oddly the bar & restaurant accept Amex, but the small bar in the cafe did not?? had to go out to the main bar to pay & bring the receipt back to get the wine. Rather odd I thought. Will give it another go as very handy to home when we just don't feel like cooking. Overall, we appreciate the effort to upgrade the club.
**UPDATE NOTE: I have also received a personal reply from the club. They have looked into the the Amex issue and solved it as well as following up with staff about the new wines. Well done Forestville RSL. Appreciate...
