For the price we paid, Garçon was extremely disappointing. First, I need to say that we dined on a Sunday night, so perhaps we got the B Team..? We went early, so the service was attentive and they were friendly/smiley, so it started well. There was a misunderstanding that feels worth my mentioning though: We asked if they were going to be serving fresh bread, like a sound ought and butter with our meal (not unusual ask for a French restaurant, right?). They said, "no, but you can order some". So, we did. We ended up with two slices of toasted bread with butter....like we had ordered toast for breakfast. I guess, it was sourdough, but weird, right? Okay, so at this point we were amused but not preturbed. Then I ordered the Chicken Liver Parfait to start. Not to everyone's taste, I know, but a personal favourite of mine. It was tasteless and bland. I didn't think it was possible to make a (usually) deliciously pungent dish like this one, so that it has no flavour at all.. but there it was. Tasteless. This entree came out with all the other mains, except mine and one other person who ordered an entree. Seems like they only held the mains for the people that ordered an entree. Okay...it happens. No drama, right? When I say to the table that my dosh was inexplicably tasteless my 10 yo who was eating the kids pasta said "me too". Next came the duck fat potatoes. They were undercoooked bordering on raw. Okay, that happens.... but then every single vegetable after that (save for some carrots) came out the same way. Raw or close to raw. The brussel sprouts were particularly mystifying because they looked cooked and charred on the outside but they were completely raw. Very strange. I assume they were just thrown into a very hot fry pan with no parboil...they were woody...almost inedible but if we didn't eat things that were undercooked, we were.going hungry....but at least they had some salt on them. These sprouts were part of the Sunday Roast rib special which had 3 x 2.5cm of rib for $40, plus potato (half raw), brussel sprouts (nicely salted...but raw) and carrots (the only thing that was properly cooked all night!). They somehow managed to make the ribs both soft and gristly at the same time. Not sure what happened there but felt like they may have also been undercooked. In short, Garçon lacked the flavour and requisite polish for the prices it charged. That...or the chef had a...
Read moreCame here for Valentines day dinner - was told when i booked that we had to get the tasting menu which is $65 per person so went with that to try out this local restaurant.
Entree was this sharing board with mussels with sambal crumb, roast pumpkin with goats cheese, chicken liver parfait and this weird cold sliced veal with bonito flakes? 3 dishes did not taste french.
Mains were a morrocan spiced lamb, pan fried barramundi and pumpkin gnocchi. The lamb was dry and flavourless, no jus but came with a weird mint yoghurt sauce, potatoes were boring and deep fried, brocollini was steamed without seasoning. The fish came out raw in the middle (unfortunately i didnt take a photo as it was packed), sent it back and did not get an apology. By the time the fish came back we were already not feeling the mains. The salad that came with the fish was terrible. Watery and tasteless fennel and cucumber. The gnocchi was dry and the sauce lacked seasoning.
So i asked for take away boxes to take away yhr meat only for my dog. Waitress came and said yes she will bring it back, never came back without mentioning that they were waiting for boxes till i followed up again. She insisted on packing the food for me which i made clear that i only want the meat without anything else. And of course she packs everything.
Dessert was some brownie with sorbet. Brownie was not heated up, and tasted very sugary and cheap.
When we paid $148 for this terrible night, no one asked us how everything was or apologised and pretended nothing happened. Clearly we were not happy with the service or food.
Will definitely not come back or recommend this “french” place to anyone. Clearly no french influences besides chicken liver parfait for this terrible tasting menu.
Ruined our first...

My wife and I ordered 2 coffee's via Garcons QR code located outside the restaurant on the coffee stand. Payment was taken immediately, I received a receipt, and instructions on where to pick up our coffees. I then received a message stating there was a problem with my order, but not to worry, payment had been processed.
I checked the order status with their front of house, who helpfully informed me that no-one was making coffees now, I was too late. Um, okay? Didn't say that anywhere near the QR code, nor did it mention this during the order process.
She then informed me that it was okay, my payment wouldn't be processed. I showed her my bank account, Garcons debit of my account, and the message saying payment processed.
She then got the manager, who pointed out when I showed her my account, that payment was pending and would be send back overnight. I politely corrected her that the word "pending" doesn't start with an "S". She was actually trying to say the CBA "See your spending" function was my payment pending, trying to move me on quickly. Again, I was told the payment would be rejected and my money would be returned.
No mention of actually, you know, just making 2 coffee's, ever occurred.
I emailed Garcon's customer service link from the email receipt provided, where "Sam" proceeded to inform me there had been a problem with their machine that day, and that my payment would be returned. This is despite me not paying via "machine", and still a week later no return of funds.
Overall, essentially, they are thieves and liars at this establishment. They also apparently can't distinguish between the word "pending" and "spending" so if you work here, probably check...
