I have lived in Lane Cove for 6 years now, and in this time, I have given this cafe so many chances to prove themselves... I have never had anyone there SMILE while serving me. The staff attitude is "we are doing you a favour". When there are other cafes in the area, wouldn't the staff try to win customers over? Do they even care if anyone comes back?
I ordered a bahn-mi today. It must be said that I hunt bahn-mi all over Sydney because it's my favourite lunch. Prices and quality vary across different stores and areas. I had had some first class authentic bahn-mi in Sydney for $4.50-$6.00... This cafe sells them for quite a high price of $10, but mine tasted just like a salad sandwich! I don't like salad sandwiches. The pate is not good, it's grainy and oily; instead of luncheon meat or roast pork pieces, this had Chinese BBQ pork (red) which is traditionally marinated in certain spices and DOESN'T BELONG ON A BAHN-MI. It doesn't taste like Vietnamese pork and that is the problem. Instead of marinated radish and carrot - both traditional Viet ingredients - this bahn-mi was loaded with fresh mixed salad leaves... Fail. There was NO coriander or freshly ground pepper. The only plus here is the quality of the baguette (the bread roll), although I am not a fan of sour dough, and again, traditional Viet bahn-mi is made using white baguette, not sourdough. Try harder, guys. Try the bahn-mi at other cafes to compare to what you make. And for everyone's sake, please, SMILE and greet us like you're HAPPY...
Read moreOne of my favourite cafes in Sydney. The highlight of their menu (for me) are their in-house made croissants.
Pottery Green baker's original store in Lane Cove is a collision between modern cafe culture with a hipster, rustic Vietnamese cuisine. They service standard fare brekkie classics like bacon and egg rolls, big brekkie, and so on, but their unique offers include moderns twists on traditional vietnamese food like pork rolls (banh mi) and pho.
For me, though, the peak of their achievement are their croissants. Good, fresh, authentic croissants seem to elude most bakers. This is not the case here. I've tried croissants throughout Sydney, and this is one of the best. The outside is crusty and slightly crunchy, and the inside is fluffy and buttery with a heavenly balance of sweetness and saltiness. The preferred way to have their croissants are either with a small amount of butter, or just straight up. I highly discourage toasting the croissant, or adding ham or cheese - it's perfectly fine just how it is!
The customer service is top notch and rapid, but this is inconsequential considering how good their croissants are. 5/5...
Read moreTo be honest I rather do this. I don't like doing this to any business, but due to Uber eats not responding to my complaint. This morning, I ordered a "hallumi stack." I have lots of expectations about my food, especially because the photo shown on Uber eats looks just too good, price it is a bit expensive 26 dollars I added ham for 4 dollars, plus a juice which was just ice and it meant to be orange it came carrot with ginger etc. I paid 43 dollars for a piece of bun that was old, lettuce and slice of tomato, and slice of hallumi with aioli. It looks completely different than the photos one. The ham was not there at all, so I ended up paying for a piece of bread, $0.80 a piece of Hallumi $1 lettuce $0.30, 2 slice of tomato $0.8 so 2.60 dollars plus LB cost and bla bla bla I paid $30. At least if it looks like the photo and it would have come with what I ordered, I wouldn't put the complaint, but Uber eats literally did not do anything and it is a bit unfair that others order and get something like that, Here are the photos one that appears in ubereats and what I got this morning. I am still looking for...
