Under new management, this is not the Birdwood of yesteryear (hence why it was so easy to get a table at peak Sunday breakfast time). The food was awful, this used to be my wife's and my favourite cafe in the area. The food tasted like they used the cheapest possible ALDI ingredients, it was poorly prepared (the eggs in my eggs Benedict were hard boiled, I couldn't believe my eyes, and they just added cheap greens and a drizzle of cheap oil (see the photo, gone are the days of the fancy dukka, feta, you know, the reason you go to a restaurant - easily the worst eggs Benedict I've ever had and I have it everywhere I go). On top of everything, the eggs gave me food poisoning (was sick immediately after and still am, hence the review).
Why buy a profitable restaurant and do a U-turn on everything that made it profitable. Staff used to be young locals, these were all fired and the staff were all older immigrants and didn't seem a good fit (though they were clearly trying). Even my wife commented on how poorly presented things were. Go elsewhere, we...

I recently had breakfast at Birdwood Cafe, and I have to say the food was excellent! The quality of the breakfast was really impressive - everything was delicious and well-prepared. You can tell they use good ingredients and take pride in their cooking.
While the food was great, I noticed the service could use a little improvement. The table wasn't cleaned properly, which was a bit disappointing. It's a small detail, but important for the overall dining experience. The waiters should pay more attention to cleaning the tables thoroughly between customers.
However, this minor service issue doesn't take away from the overall quality of the cafe. The food is definitely worth coming back for! With just a bit more attention to detail in service, this place would be perfect.
If you're looking for a tasty breakfast spot, Birdwood Cafe is still a great choice. The food quality makes up for the small service hiccups.
Tip for the staff: A little extra care in cleaning tables would make the experience even better...
Read moreMy visit started with a friendly greeting by the waitress however it soon turned into a humiliating experience. I ordered and paid for a large cappuccino and poached eggs at the counter, even having a dialogue with waitress at the checkout about size of the coffee. My friend’s order was delivered but I had to ask firstly for my breakfast and then for my coffee. My breakfast was delivered after a while but To my shock, the original waitress approached me and asked me to check my bank details on my phone to see what amount I’d paid as theyd lost my ticket and wanted to confirm that I’d paid for the coffee. The waitress hovered beside me as I logged into my bank account, with my friend watching, waiting for me to prove that I’d paid for the coffee with the breakfast. I of course had, and showed her my phone with the amount paid and only then did she bring my coffee, with a so sorry. Totally appalling and could have been handled so differently....
