A friend and I visited this establishment after a wonderful dinner at the nearby Little Red Robin. It was just the 2 of us and we were enjoying a long overdue catch up as I don't live in Sydney anymore. We sat out the back and were conversing with no issue when after 3 drinks the barmaid informed us that she had decided that we had had enough to drink and that we could only drink water.
I was quite surprised by this as we had been keeping to ourselves and though it may have been a lively conversation, we had been behaving in a polite and appropriate manner in any interactions with the staff and we did not talk to any other patrons.
I enquired what behaviour had triggered this decision and I was told that she had just observed us and decided. I then stupidly (but very politely) asked her if she thought a 19 year old could reasonably tell if a 46 year old has had too much to drink, especially seeing as we were keeping to ourselves and not being loud, rude or violent.
This was obviously a big mistake as 2 bouncers were then called to ensure that we finished our waters and then to escort us from the premises. I'm sure at this point some people will have decided that I was obviously intoxicated and in the wrong but I thought I should leave this review just in case there is anyone left out there capable of a shred of independent rational thought who may benefit from knowing to avoid this establishment.
Edit in response: Yeah I get it, "it's the rules". But at no point were those rules ever clearly explained or defined. And once we had crossed this invisible line, the staffs' attitude became condescending and resentful. In a moment based on an inexperienced persons feelings we were no longer valued customers but an annoyance to be gotten rid of. Completely ruined what had been up until that point, a very pleasant evening. Good luck running a "hospitality" business in this type of...
Read moreVisited this pub on Sunday night with a big group of 60 people (reservation). We were seated in an outdoor/indoor area that was very picturesque and aesthetic and looked exactly like their photos with a little ongoing fire pit. The entire area looked like it was actually made up of several different areas combined together which was really nice because it was clear where each group could sit and takeover what area.
My friend and I shared their fish n chips because it was a bit more pricier than what we were expecting which came with 2 fish pieces, side of chips, aioli and small salad. For the price, I was a bit disappointed at their portion size but it was delicious. My friend ordered their Asahi and I had a glass of lemonade for $4.5 which also seems a bit overpriced.
We were served by a young gentleman for our drinks who was quite polite and apologised for the delay with the terminal being slow at checkout. An Asian lady also served us taking our food order but she wasn't very friendly. Maybe I'm more used to restaurants and cafes with a structure, but it all seemed quite disorganised as there were no clear signage of where to order and where to even locate the food menus so we ended up guess ordering our food at the bar. The drinks menu was located at the bar also but it was a bit of a guess again as I wanted a soft drink and I felt a bit dumb not knowing what was available.
It was also quite loud but that's to be expected on a sports night (although in saying that, I have no idea if sports have an off night or an on night). Overall, if you're looking for an aesthetic laidback place to have a meal with some friends, this would be the place to go as our appointed 6:30pm quickly went past and it was 9:30pm by the...
Read moreWe used to come and eat here all the time - at least once a month or more. We visited around 4 months ago with the new ownership change. The quality of the food has definitely changed along with the new ownership. The interesting Asian fusion chicken tacos, now average chipotle tacos. The kids chicken schnitzel which was big and fresh and real whole chicken breast is now listed on the menu as schnitty “tenders.” Sweet potato waffle fries replaced with different regular sweet potato fries. I think they have tried to keep with the general idea of the previous menu, but with different ownership, they would have different wholesale food suppliers and it’s unfortunate that the food hasn’t survived the change. Management responses that it’s the same menu or “seasonal changes” alone feel like a gaslight response to people who can see the reduced quality in food. It’s actually these responses that prompted my review. There is no inclusion of seasonal summer produce on the current menu. A fresh salad with new season mangoes or asparagus side. Not there. I have worked in restaurants for years and am currently in the food industry working directly with suppliers, this is simply lower quality food now.
Broken benches outside and peeling paint under the tables was the first time this pub felt shabby and a bit worn down.
It’s unfortunate as it was our local. Apologies to the new owners for the critical review, but important to hear feedback on the changes you’ve made and what may be impacting your business and community. The “seasonal changes” excuse for excellent fried calamari vs. not nearly as good fried calamari doesn’t seem very fair either. The result is uninspired average pub food lacking interesting flavours...
