I was attracted inside by the street appeal. It looked warm and homely as I strolled past on this winters morning. Upon stepping inside I noted the potential as I admired the decor and felt the ambience. I love cafes, pubs and restaurants where you are immediately made to feel at ease and welcome, almost as though you were actually invited. Unfortunately this was one of those times where I felt as though I was intruding and shouldn't be there. The guilt seeps in and I think maybe I should leave. There were no friendly smiles, no friendly chit chat, just straight to business. I order my small, decaf cappuccino and the apple custard Danish that tempts me in the display case and when told it would be $16 I thought it was a little overpriced. Nevertheless I paid and took my seat. Once again when my order was delivered to my table I said thank you and hoped for a little human interaction, but it was not to be. I will say the Danish was delicious and left me craving more but my cappuccino was not to my personal liking as I do prefer a robust flavour but I'm sure it would have been perfect to some. Overall, I wouldn't hurry back, but that is just personal preference and to...
Read moreThis hidden gem has a nice, cosy atmosphere. The barista was very friendly and welcoming. There is limited seating, but does include tables both inside and out.
The coffee was very nice, but unfortunately they forgot to add sugar. There is only sugar substitute (equal) at the tables and when asking the waitress, they only have raw sugar. It would also have been nice to be offered a glass of water, even though they were a little busy. Overall a very enjoyable coffee with some room for improvement.
The stand out for me was the banana bread and that delicious honeycomb butter. The banana bread had a lovely texture and taste and was served warm. The honeycomb butter was a new experience for me, and was fantastic. This alone is worth a return visit!
One thing to note is the lack of an accessible entry, I actually assisted a lovely lady with the step out the front. Also the loft is not publically accessible, in case you...
Read moreFor the last month we’ve frequented this café as a meet up spot, food was a bit slow to arrive but overall was pleasant enough.. until today. Arrived and chose what looked like an empty booth to sit. Upon sitting a disgruntled customer walked past and muttered ‘thanks for taking my seat’ to which we were taken aback and offered the booth back to him which he refused. Approached the counter to order and the lady serving commented rudely’ he was sitting there’ which we apologised ordered our coffee and sat back down feeling most unwelcome. Decided to cancel the coffee and eat elsewhere as the atmosphere was uninviting. We did not know another customer had chosen that seat as it was empty, instead of approaching us in a mature manner both parties made us feel uncomfortable which isn’t ideal for a supposed relaxed café environment. Won’t be...
