As an Australian citizen trying Indian cuisine for the first time, I must say Jewel on the Bay in Rose Bay has set the bar incredibly high. From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I was captivated by the welcoming ambiance, a perfect blend of warmth and elegance with subtle Indian décor that transported me to another world.
The service was impeccable—friendly, attentive staff who guided me through the menu, ensuring I felt comfortable exploring a cuisine that was entirely new to me. Their recommendations were spot-on, catering perfectly to my preference for mild yet flavorful dishes.
The food? Simply extraordinary. I started with a butter chicken that was rich, creamy, and packed with a depth of flavor I’d never experienced before. Paired with fluffy naan bread and aromatic basmati rice, every bite was a delight. The samosas were crisp and filled with a deliciously spiced potato mix, and the mango lassi provided a refreshing sweetness to round off the meal.
Jewel on the Bay didn’t just introduce me to Indian food—it made me a fan for life. I left with a newfound appreciation for this vibrant cuisine and a promise to return. Highly recommend this gem of a restaurant for anyone, whether you’re an Indian food enthusiast or, like me, trying it for...
Read moreExtremely rude staff. Booked table for birthday dinner however got the worst table in the house. When we asked to move, the manager himself practically argued with us that this is the most popular table. Anyway, about 10 minutes later, it started to rain on our table. When we asked to be moved again, we received same argument from manager and they pulled down this moldy plastic to protect us from the rain.
We thankfully managed to get a table inside but manager was practically yelling at my mother.
To top things up, we had to wait at least 20 minutes after we finished eating before someone came to clear our plates and offer coffees. After ordering coffees it took another 5 minutes before the manager informed us that they ran out of milk but if we still want coffees, he’ll send someone to buy milk but it will take further 10 minutes.
Lovely food, really. But the service was absolutely atrocious.
I hope the manager is proud of himself for making...
Read moreI honestly can't understand why this restaurant has such a high rating. This was one of the most ordinary curries I have ever tasted and that is saying something. The starter, chicken tikka, was some of the worst cooked meat ever...must have chosen all the dodgy bits of the chicken. At the same time we were served with lukewarm beer.
Mains were tasteless, even with a side vindaloo sauce. The lamb rogan tasted like a bad stew my mother used to make; certainly not a curry dish! Chicken main was also really tasteless, as was the saag aloo, which was stewed to death. We moved onto a bottle of Chardonnay wine; well it must have cost $5 max. The main gentleman who served us was pleasant, but the older chap basically slammed down plates and was really rude.
The rice and naan bread were were best part of the meal!
All this cost $180...daylight robbery. If they offered me to go there...
