We were there Saturday 11 May 2024 to celebrate mother's day dinner. It should of been a very enjoyable night out having dinner with my mom and family, but instead I was left feeling very upset. We order close to 2kg Lobster with EGG noodle, Pipis, Abalone and 6 other dishes. Normally Abalone and Lobster should come out first as entrees. Abalone came out first then 5 other dishes came out then the small Lobster dish came out. We instantly notice the noodle wasn't correct to our order with the Lobster dish. I then said don't worry EEG noodles and E FU noodle is still noodles because Jumbo was very busy and people do make mistake. So I basically let that go and when I was serving the Lobster to my mom I notice the size was relatively small maybe just over 1kg from previous time having Lobster at Jumbo and other Chinese Restaurant. I let that go as well because didn't want to ruin mother's day. Roughly around 20 minutes later a lady was pushing a trolley with a bigger Lobster dish with EGG noodle stopped in front of my table. She was about to place that particular dish on my table but she notice we have a Lobster dish then hesitate and ask senior wait staff. They were discussing and decided to just give it to my neighbouring table just so no one gets in trouble. I heard all the commotion then I asked a few waiting staff did you mixed up the lobster order. They reply I will check. Came back and told me oh luck you they order 2.2kg and you ordered close to 2kg so more for you. I actually told them I know how a 2kg lobster dish would look like it's not like I just came out of a cave and never eaten lobster before. Then another dish came out and put on my table which we ate already and told them to take that away cause we already have that dish. The waiting staffs insisted that oh that's OK free for you. I TOLD THEM I DID NOT ORDER A 2ND DISH OF THIS SO I DONT WANT IT AND TAKE IT AWAY. I ASLO TOLD THEM WHAT I OREDER I WILL PAY BUT WHAT I DIDNT ORDER I WILL NOT ACCEPT. Then a different waiting staff arrive see that I was quite upset and asked me what's wrong. I told him your staff stuffed up my order right. He replied I will check. He came back and was oh this and that and I told him to forget it. The funny thing is less than 1 minute later he came back to my table with a bowl of jelly and told me this is for the kids for FREE. I told him exactly what I'd written a few sentences ago. WHAT I ORDER I WILL PAY NOTHING IS FREE IN THIS WORLD and I insisted that he take it back. I'm not gonna mention any names on that particular day but it's the principle that's why I'm speaking our to get across to management for this incident. What is right and what is wrong. Do the right thing for your customer. For management maybe there should be an ethical training for most of you staff. I truly believe anyone in my position...
Read moreReview for Jumbo Seafood Chinese Restaurant
Overall, the experience at Jumbo Seafood was just OK — not terrible, but nothing that stood out either, especially when compared to other Yum Cha restaurants. Of course, food and service are subjective, so this is just based on my personal preferences.
Pros: • Convenience: There’s free parking and entry is simple with a free membership to the club where the restaurant is located. • Discounts: They offer Yum Cha discounts on weekdays (Monday to Friday) and weekends, which is a nice bonus. • Ambience: The restaurant is modern and clean with elegant Chinese touches that make the space feel pleasant and inviting. • Pacing: We were not rushed to vacate the table or pay the bill, so if you’re after a slow and relaxed Yum Cha session, this could be a good choice for groups or long catch-ups.
Cons: • Food Quality: The Yum Cha was fairly standard — nothing particularly bad, but also nothing memorable. The eggplant and tofu dishes with mince paste stood out for the wrong reasons; the texture was too mushy and lacked the balance I expect from well-executed versions. Other items were just average, and when food is just “OK”, it doesn’t differentiate itself from the many other options available. • Service: This was the most disappointing aspect. Upon arrival, I wasn’t properly greeted or guided to a table. Instead, I had to walk right into the middle of the restaurant before someone acknowledged me. A host or someone stationed at the front would have made the entry smoother. The overall vibe from staff was cold and disengaged. While the team was mostly made up of older staff (which I don’t mind at all), there was a distinct lack of warmth or friendliness. No smiles, no eye contact, no “Hi, how are you?” — just a sense that they didn’t really want to be there. At one point, I overheard staff complaining about each other, which added to the uncomfortable atmosphere.
Final thoughts: If your priority is to find a spacious place where you can eat slowly and not feel rushed, this place may suit your needs. But for me personally, I value delicious food and friendly service above all. I don’t mind quick turnover as long as the dining experience feels welcoming and the dishes are worth coming back for — and in this case, unfortunately, it...
Read moreMy family and I went for dinner for father's Day. We had a booking at 6pm and we arrived on time and ordered not too long after. We were told that some dishes out take some time to come out due to it being busy for the occasion, and we understood, assuming maybe up to 30-40 mins. The food came out very sporadically and by 8.20pm more than 2 hours later all of our dishes still hasn't arrived and the restaurant wasn't at full capacity anymore and at half capacity. All the while, the tables near us were receiving much attention and premium service as they had looked more Eastern Asian in comparison to my family despite the fact that we have significant Chinese descent and spoke Cantonese to our waiter and staff. Clearly the restaurant follow the notion of colourism, as my father and I who have darker skin tone were treated like a second class citizen when speaking to wait staff. Our waiter refused to even listen to us as we spoke once again in Cantonese when we asked when our dishes would arrive. He kept saying it's busy very rudely as opposed to I'm sorry I'd go check with the kitchen. I had tried 3 times to order another dish but the waiter completely ignored me. He didn't even bother to come back at all to given a window of time of when it would arrive. It was getting far too late as I have young children and it was well past their bedtime, and the wait time was beyond ridiculous. The lack of service forced my father into a corner, and he had to get up from our table to approach the waiter to try to get an answer but didn't receive one at all and was called rude by the waiter. We ended up cancelling our dish after waiting more than 2 hours and was told by staff that it wasn't even near being prepared. My father tried to complain by no one even gave him the decency to listen to his complaint and tried to shut up him with a beer hoping that he would just go away. I understand that in Chinese establishments that you cannot expect exceptional customer service, but it was next...
