(3.5 stars) Bankstown has come a long way since my youth, now boasting a 430-capacity rooftop nightclub, Lady Banks Rooftop. This tenth floor indoor-outdoor space has solved the usual Clubs NSW venue dilemma with external glass elevators that mean you don’t have to sign into Bankstown Sports Club for access. Ain’t nobody got time for that on a big night out.
On the first Sunday of every month Lady Banks puts on a Brunch’n’Boujee ($79/person) event that kicks off at 11.30am, probably to allow their staff (and patrons) some respite after a big night before. Accepting this package is the only way to brunch here. I watched a table of four walk out disgruntled because they couldn’t order brunch a la carte without the bottomless cocktail option but sympathised with the venue as cocktails are clearly their main game. The tequila-based bloody Maria that I kicked off with showed they do them well. The rest of the brunch cocktail list felt a bit pedestrian—a bloody Mary, a mimosa, and a ruby grapefruit Bellini—but they’d all be able to be made quickly when the space is full. The wider list may warrant coming back for a night-time visit as would the astounding city-wide views.
In terms of the included eats it’s a two-course affair leading (in most cases) with a souped-up Benny. I thought the lobster mornay Benny lightly dusted with Parmesan crumb ate slightly better than their signature Lady Banks Benny. Teaming delicately flavoured crab with two plump poached eggs, smashed avocado, salmon roe and Hollandaise meant the crustacean got a bit lost. The second course is unlimited self-service from a trolley of Belgian-style waffles and thin pancakes. You can dress your plate with bacon, butter a drizzle of maple syrup as I did, or delve into an otherwise sweet array of toppings running from fresh fruit to chocolate sauce. I think I would have preferred an option to eschew the sugar—even the waffles themselves were sweet—in favour of a second savoury dish from their short range of brunch additions. Food aside, on a sunny day with the right DJ spinning tunes on either outdoor terrace, this spot...
Read moreCelebrated my 45th bday here (early Sept but cold evening) with cousins and sisters, just 6 of us. From booking , I'm glad I didn't rely on the booking app. Some seats like outdoor areas are not counted and only counts seating inside. This was picked up when I enquired as the app was saying they were full but plenty of seating avail outside. Advice is to ring in advance or call in if you see no availability as there could be. Make sure you enter from Restwell St entrance to get to lifts to go up. It's not inside the actual Club. They've their own entrance. No need for membership or to show it. To kick off we got the Vodka Watermelon jug $70 and it was nice, not that strong but refreshing and tasty, I recommend this as a start for a group to get warmed up. Good value. For food we ordered the Mezza dips (baba, hummus, beetroot, tatziki) and the dips and bread. I recommend this for a group as well. Very generous serves of dips! We had to order another round of woodfire pizza bread to not let dips go to waste they were that good! We also got the truffle pizza, this is a must, it was super good. I'd go back just for this pizza! The scallops were nice too and burata with pumpkin, which was a disappointment. I wouldn't recommend it at all. It was like baby food and not satisfying. It's better with tomatoes not pureed pumpkin. The ordering on the table app was great, everyone just ordering their own drinks and food to share, no split bills nor awkwardness. We ordered more cocktails, Lady Banks with gin and elderflower and an Lemon Bellini which tasted like a Calippo ice block! Later on we moved down to fire pits with carrying the supplied blankets and had some more food and drinks. All in all a great night! The staff were attentive and very nice. One thing, they do need more heaters and blankets for cold nights. All in all, we agreed it's a lovely place to dine and have drinks, and we really did have a wonderful experience and we all said we will come back and recommend...
Read moreI recently took 5 friends to Lady Banks rooftop Bar after booking a table online. Initially I called the Sports club to book only to be told that there were no tables available. On the off chance I checked via Lady banks website and managed to secure a table. We arrived @ 8:15 for our scheduled dinner. We were taken to a table in the outside area which was beautiful but unfortunately it was very windy so we requested to be moved inside. Once inside I went to the bar and ordered wine and drinks for our table. We then proceeded to order our meal (tomahawk and seafood platter plus various extras) via the QR code on the table. The ambience was nice, the music was good. The table service however was not so good. After waiting over 30 minutes for our drinks to arrive (1 bottle of wine, 1 scotch and coke) they had still not arrived. Our dinner plates and cutlery arrived before the drinks but they were placed on the table randomly by a staff member who looked like she would rather be elsewhere. The meal arrived in drips and drabs over a 40 minute period. This was disappointing as the extras we ordered were to compliment the meat dish and during the time we waited they had gone cold. I must say however once the food did arrive it was mouthwateringly beautiful, and compliments to the chefs!. The dishes were bountiful although it did feed the 5 of us. Once finished we sat around enjoying the venue, music and company but we did after around 1 hour request that our dirty plates be cleared from the table. Overall we had a good night leaving the venue around 11pm. Things about the venue noted were emotionless staff. Long wait times for drinks and food. Poor table service. Good points to note is the ambiance and space. Its very clean and the food is delicious. I think Lady Banks is a great high end Bar but if your looking for restaurant style dining then...
