OG. I've been to this restaurant countless times and while some have said that it's not as good any more I call that rubbish because they are consistent as ever and that's something you could probably bank money on given their never ending relentless on being efficient. As a kid, sure, not going to be as good as mum's, but mum was had no issues eating here. For a time I lived in Bankstown and whenever I was feeling slightly run down I would turn up for take away and the staff would have my order ready before I received my change, not because things aren't fresh but because they are efficient and pho is 99% prep and takeaway avoids the assembly so being efficient just means you portioned everything exactly. Years later, I'm still feeling like the rich soup in the bowl is still soothing for the soul and I appreciate it even more without the hoisin and srirarcha, having made this myself I have a better appreciation for the effort in this bowl. The noodles are fresh, the herbs include Thai basil which many other places now skimp on by using mint instead, and the chilli on the table is fresh and not dried out from being prepared too early. They still turn over tables reasonably quickly, though with much more competition around Sydney there's no queues on the average week night and has been very accessible for many years. Don't forget cash, I did today and put an order anyway while letting them know I was going to duck around to the atm quickly. At the end, wave them down to pay at the table. You can customise a little as well if your have the patience to speak with them but bear in mind English is not the native tongue of most workers there. I recommend beginners to get the special which comes with the tripe and tendon, rare beef and cooked brisket and see which bits you like - I like variety so I still get the special. You can get a side of bo vien (the beef balls) with a side of satay oil which is a good but advanced customisation. The formula hasn't changed over decades and it doesn't need to when it still manages to stay busy without needing to resort to new age influencers, the customers are loyal with generations of families coming here since the 80s.

I've eaten Pho in a number of cities in the world. I've eaten pho in many cities and provinces in Vietnam. I Australia, I have eaten pho in every capital city, and as part of my business travels ate pho multiple times a week at different places. Yes - I am a pho addict. And when it comes to reviewing pho restaurants, I think I am more qualified than most, because of the vast experience over many years of eating pho. Pho An in Bankstown is a place is a famous place for Pho, although in the last decade or so, I have been here maybe only 3 times. I come here every few years to see if anything has changed, and if it's worth rambling about. IT ISN'T. It was nothing special back then in 2007 when I came here first, and nothing special now in 2018. Don't get me wrong. The pho is ok. nothing to write home about, but not bad either. I am at a loss as to why people think this is the best place in Sydney. It isn't. Especially for the price. It is probably the most expensive pho in Sydney. A large bowl will set you back $17.50. A medium bowl will set you back $16.00. There is no small option, which makes you wonder why it's not just classified as small and large. My guess is that charging $16.00 for what is essentially noodle soup with a bit of beef is outrageous. Down the road and around the corner, you will find 2 other options for pho which taste just as good, and in the case of the large, will be about $4.00 less. Yes - $4.00 LESS for essentially the same thing, and to my palette arguably better tasting down the road. The service from this place is rather cold and uncaring. That has not changed either over the years. The final annoyance is that they are cash only. They generate enough revenue to be a proper EFTPOS business, but not. CASH ONLY.. One can only image they are cash only to "minimise tax". Hello ATO? Bottom line is this place is expensive, but nothing special. If you were to treat a party of 6 friends here for pho, you'd be spending close to $100. A iced milk coffee (cafe sua da) will set you back $6.00. That's outrageous. Check for other options very close by. They are just as good, more friendly, and a lot cheaper.

We’ve been eating here for the last few years, but this will definitely be our last visit. We didn’t notice the “Cash Only” sign until after we’d already ordered. I asked the young boy if they would accept PayID or bank transfer and he said yes. But when we were ready to pay the bill, the lady told us it was cash only and sounded very angry. I went to the counter hoping they’d give some leeway, but the lady behind the counter was no different. After asking a few times, she just pointed to a sign saying I could leave my ID, phone, or car keys behind to get cash. I am used to doing everything with my phone and didn’t have my bank card with me. I had to find a bank that accepts cardless withdrawal. Luckily I have accounts with a few banks. Westpac Group recently discontinued cardless withdrawals, so I had to walk a long distance to a shopping centre to find an NAB ATM, leaving my family behind. What a bad experience! I cannot understand how such a big restaurant with major renovations can still have a cash-only policy in 2025, after COVID. Despite that, they don’t offer any other payment options. For the price and the appalling service, it’s just not worth coming here anymore. I’m glad I don’t have to come back.

If there was NO STAR REVIEW. Thats what i would put. The Owner is the rudest person i have ever come across. We have been loyal customers for a long time and order the same thing every time, rare beef pho. This time it was so chewy and couldnt get it down, the pho broth was so meaty, cloudy and cold. We waved down the owner a few times to let her know it was not edible, she said “oh next time ask for it extra hot”. “Oh we changed the meat supplier and realised its pretty tough so we are trying to order from our usual supplier”. So we asked if anything could be done about it as we had only had a little bit from it, she clearly stated “NO, sorry we cant do anything about it”. Half way through the meal, we decided we just cant eat it, no matter how much we tried. So we walked up to the counter and told the rude owner, please is there anything you can do about it we are happy for pay for our drinks but we hardly touched the pho, she said so abruptly NO YOU NEED TO PAY. We said we will pay some but its not fair we havent finished our meal, she said no one else has complained shut me down while i was trying to speak and said calm down calm down when we were being so polite. After speaking back and forth, she snatched the money out of our hand and said DONT EVER COME BACK GOODBYE. How do you run a shop and so are so rude, abrupt and cannot take accountability for a complaint coming your way. If we have been there so many times and had an issue then why would be go back again? This was the first ever complaint we made. I will definitely NEVER, EVER GO BACK. And give my money to someone so money hungry and careless. Nobody asked for a free meal, just a compromise at the least would have been nice. She could have offered a replacement, she could have offered it to be heated up, she could have removed the extra meat we paid for off the bill. But no instead, she lied saying you should of said something earlier when we clearly did several times. YUCK. The attitude and hostility was unacceptable. I will be telling everyone i know to not go there.

Seeing as i can not reply to your comment, i will edit my comment and reply to you. The fact that you can not own up to your actions is disgusting and disgraceful. You are not the manager you are the owner, and not one staff member approached us other than you. We got a share bowl and divided it into two bowls and had MORE THAN HALF LEFT. You could clearly see all the extra meat we paid for just sat there as it was absolutely appalling, and both our share plates were still full with food. So stop lying, your rude and apparently in the right to every single person that writes you a negative review. You deserve to be shut down. Not once was abusive language used, i would not embarrass myself like that. You are a disgrace to customer service, and the fact that you take cash only buckle your seatbelt because you will be hearing from fair trading darl. By the way, stop using chat gpt to write your reviews, because i know for sure you are not that educated. Oh and also you rude person, dont answer phone calls in the middle of a dispute with your customers and put your hand up in my face, the fact that you think we will be returning is delusional. I will never step foot into your atrocious shop again, nor give you a dime. The problem is you dont realise how many other people i will make sure wont be coming...
