Lakes Hotel — Restaurant in Sydney

The Lakes had been on my "to visit" list for years. I don't live in the area, but have passed it many times, and it presents really well. So, in hoping to find a venue to enjoy a boxing match (not UFC, they're everywhere, all the time), I thought I'd give this place a whirl. So I booked a table via their online portal, 'cos a spot in front of the screen is always best if poss. So when we arrive, no table has been reserved for us, but no matter, the room is comfortable and we manoeuvre a table up-front and in a top spot. Yee ha. But the big screen displaying the fight has a two-second delay in sound to vision. Year 2024. None of the punches hit when they're supposed to, and the commentary is just rubbish, with mouths moving when words aren't. Asking the bar staff, yes they've had it mentioned by everyone in the place, and management are onto it. Noticing the five big-screens in the Sports Bar that are black, I fear there is no real management onsite, and they most likely won't give two hoots in popping in on a day off to fix a piddly sound issue on a major sports event on their day off. And that's just what happened. No-one came. No-one gave one hoot, let alone two. And a fight that drew a full room, and was shown on every telly in the place, went without any care for its viewing, and without any care for the people who had shown up to watch it. And the volume was not raised above a murmur come fight time - though with the out-of-sync issues, might have been best. The food was okay. Typical pub menu. Why does everyone have the same menu? The service was okay from those on the ground. Unfortunately, those on the ground had no ability to control the Sports Bar screens, and relied on other management - who were sadly absent. Okay food and okay bar service will not have me returning to The Lakes any time soon. So many other pubs actually care more about their punters, and I've now tried The Lakes and don't need to try it again. Very average experience. Disappointing from time we entered with no reserved table (having been asked to confirm the night prior), to the time we walked out, having spent a wasted two-hours in a place that didn't care for me or the others in the room. I had a horrible experience watching UFC here. In summary, we were asked to change seats with our drinks during the main fight of UFC because they want to put something else on that tv screen.

We were sitting at the dining area cause we were also having lunch. The food was ok. During most of the time of UFC, the sound was not on because of boxing and there was only one tv playing UFC. So far we were still good. After the boxing game’s finished, sound’s back! But then a staff came and asked us to move seats to another tv because they’d like to put AFL on this tv DURING THE MAIN FIGHT OF UFC! She didn’t even wait for a break, and just asked while the fight is going on and it’s the main fight.

I understand they try to be inclusive for all sports. You can change what’s on the screen when there’s no one watching that tv. But NOT when there’s already limited access, and asked us to move during the main fight. That’s so annoying and unprofessional as a sports bar.

We had other options of bars and we chose this place because they label “UFC Sundays” on their website. If UFC has to make ways for other sports, if we need to move here and there during the main fight, then don’t say you have UFC Sundays!!!!!!!

W used to use an automatic machine to buy cigarettes here, but he took my money and didn't get cigarettes!
