So were in Sydney from Melbourne getting some treatment for our son. Drove past this shop numerous times before deciding to try it (I am of Greek background). Went in on a Sunday around 2pm in the afternoon. It was a little busy. I walked over to the right side of the shop to select some biscuits. I was standing there waiting for around 4 minutes. I noticed a shortish woman standing behind the front counter, she had noticed me but had not walked over to the other side where I was standing to help me select my biscuits. I had my wife and son in the car so I decided to walk over to the counter and try and order from memory. The lady was not friendly and didn’t bother smiling or asking what she could do for me. I started to relay my order and was interrupted by her when I didn’t pronounce one of the biscuit types properly. I said it would be easier if I could do my order in front of the actual cabinet to which she just did a face. I ordered less than what I was going to and left. After trying their product we realised that their biscuits were of a very high standard. I went back in a week later and dealt with Catherine. She was lovely and so friendly and helpful. I told her I would come back the week after with a couple of plastic storage containers to buy around 40-70 biscuits. She said that’s fine look forward to seeing you then. I went in next week and again the shop was busy. I walked over to the biscuit cabinet and waited patiently. A very friendly Asian girl served me. As she started to serve me my old friend the short middle aged woman (the owner of the shop I was told) runs over and starts yelling at me ‘we can’t fill those that’s a catering size order you need to Pre organise that’... I responded in a displeased tone ‘ I came in last week and organised it with Catherine’ to which she did another face and said ‘well we can do it this time only’... I was very upset at the way she had spoken to me and I decided to remind her how she had been rude and not helpful the week before last and that why should it matter they were only 1.5 and 2.0 litres in size the whole filling of them only took 6 minutes. She respond by saying ‘oh I’m so sorry If I am being rude’ in a totally non genuine tone to which I responded ‘go away and don’t talk to me anymore’ I was done with her nonsense. She disappeared and obviously went out the back to whinge to her not sure relation male Angelo. He came over obviously to calm the situation down. He is the nicest man we had a lovely chat and I explained why were in Sydney and he wished me all the best for my son and he gave me a free spinach cheese pastry. Would I go back... no. I’m still upset at the way she treated me. Are their products good? Yes they are amazing. Are all the other staff their super friendly and nice? Yes. This lady needs to not serve customers. There was no excuse to treat me like she did. Next time we are in Sydney I will send my wife in to the shop and tell her not to deal with the middle aged short woman who owns it.. that’s if she is still...
Read moreThis was a place which was on the list perhaps as far back as 2021 - but life got in the way. However, I made a promise to myself to visit here (as a local resident from Eastlakes highly recommended this place - in fact, the local tip is to go first thing in the morning to get that simit / koulouri - that's when it's fresh as). With bubs - was always a mission but we managed to make it by noon and there simit / koulouri with sultanas (first time I've had it like that and it was nice). The Kurabiye / kourabiedes was nice too (my go to treat at a Greek place).
Coffee was nice (Toby's Estate) - could have been a bit warmer (but that's a minor point). The eclairs were an unexpected treat from our friends and didn't disappoint (I enjoyed the chocolate but the friends also recommended the vanilla flavour).
Also - I've been to plenty a cafe and when you bring a child some people give a look like "uh", but here, locals were quite friendly towards bubs too.
Plenty of cakes and sweets - and it's always nice to see the locals (and Greeks) at their own cafe (which tells me it's good).
Would I revisit - absolutely (need to try that bread early morning... One day...). Eastlakes is a place I've come to like more and more, and this is that gem that's there. Whilst 1-2 years delayed in my visit - glad I...
Read moreOn a recent work trip, my colleague took me to Born To Bake for a quick breakfast, and it was a fantastic find. The moment you walk in, the aroma of fresh pastries and coffee fills the air, creating such a warm and inviting atmosphere. I opted for a traditional Greek coffee, which was rich and robust—a perfect way to start the day.
Paired with a warm spanakopita, it was an authentic and truly memorable morning treat. The spanakopita itself was a masterpiece. The pastry was incredibly flaky and buttery, with a perfect crispness that you can only get from a freshly baked item. I was also impressed by the filling; it was generously packed with spinach and feta that was perfectly seasoned. Each bite was a delightful mix of textures and savory flavors, a testament to the care and quality that goes into their food.
This cafe is a must-visit for anyone looking for a taste of authentic Greek baking. The combination of a delicious, generously-filled spanakopita and a perfectly brewed Greek coffee made for a breakfast that was far beyond my expectations. I was so happy with the experience, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit, where I will be ordering the exact same...
