2023.04.16 Edit:] I'm happy to say Locantro Bakery has redeemed itself. We visited again on 25 March and had a most delicious lunch - who would have thought potato pizza slices could be so tasty? I've left my earlier review below, partly because it shows the history of how the owner actually reached out to me and sent a gift voucher (for more than the value of the coffee) which we redeemed on that visit. We will definitely be going back again.[/Edit Be warned! "Sometimes orders get missed!" Or so I was told when my meal had not been served after 20 mins. The coffee and meals for others at my table had been served 10mins earlier, and indeed by now I'd finished my coffee. I suggested that perhaps they could refill my coffee as a gesture of goodwill since my waiting time had been reset to zero! Now my son works in hospitality. He knows that when the system lets a customer down, the most important thing is to keep the customer happy. A cup of coffee is a pittance of a price to pay to ensure good customer satisfaction. I've heard story after story about the lengths his establishment will go to to make sure customers leave happy. But here at Locantro Bakery they have different values, and I was left without food, without coffee and with a feeling that this phenomenon of "Sometimes orders get missed!" must be such a common occurrence that they just don't bother with customer satisfaction any more. After another 15 minutes and still no food, my wife (now finished with her meal) went to the counter to hassle them until she got the order. Now the food was actually quite nice, but there was no way I could really enjoy it after being treated as being so unimportant. Oh. I was told I could have another coffee, but I'd have to get up and go and pay for it first. I asked for tap water instead. So if you plan on visiting. Remember. "Sometimes orders get missed!" I can live with that, we are all human. It's how you handle the customer when their order is missed that...
Read moreI love this place and it's my local. But the recent price hikes are unaffordable for a regular visits. Nearly 10 dollars for a long black and a plain croissant, sorry locantro.2021.
Ok a few years have passed and i tried again because the place looks nice and they have newspapers (but no wifi). The regular flat white and plain croissant (my benchmark order) has gone up to $12.50. The coffee was okay but the croissant was big and like bread. Not at all like a parisian croissant. There are many nice bright sweet cakes and the atmosphere outside is good. Inside the 'best of italy' playlist was a bit loud and tragic. Nice people, but as a regular place try the new little bakery nearby on parramatta road. It is humble and has awesome croissants. Pantry Story i...
Read moreA few people had said this was a really good place to get authentic Italian sweets, so I drove for an hour in traffic, only to get there and be disappointed. The selection was not what I expected, and most of the sweets seemed to be either half or three-quarters the usual size. It feels like all cake shops are playing the same gameâgiving you less and charging you more.
Iâve been all over Italy, and this place just doesnât stack up. In my opinion, itâs definitely not worth the drive. If youâre in the Ryde area, youâre better off going to Maggioâs, as itâs basically the same quality and costâwhich is not cheap.
Thatâs my honest opinion, but try it for yourself. I donât like putting down any business, but I say...
