The site of Yagoona McDonald's has the distinction of being Australia's first McDonald's store, originally opening in 1971 but closing down some 23 years later in 1994.
A franchisee (or McDonald's corporate head office) decided that it was a good idea to reopen another store on the site again, so they did so in late 2021.
They really shouldn't have - read on as there's a lot of things wrong with this place, particularly poor hygiene standards.
I get the appeal behind the history of the location and the design and fit out of the store making it a showcase for both the past, present and future of McDonald's Australia, but where it misses the mark is that it fails to adhere to the basic corporate ethos.
Fast food is completely redefined when it comes to this store as there's absolutely nothing fast about it. It's like everything is stuck in a 1970's timewarp and the service moves at a sloth's pace.
My partner and I dined in on a Friday evening at approximately 9.30pm when the restaurant was empty and there was only one car waiting in the drive through, but for whatever reason it took a lifetime to get what I ordered.
In the time it took upon placing and receiving my order, I could have driven down the road, made the 4km trip to the Bass Hill store, gone through the drive through, made the return 4km trip to Yagoona and sat down to eat my purchase from Bass Hill quicker (yes, really!)
On the topic of sitting down, the store was absolutely filthy with trash on the floor & dining tables and the garbage bins overfilled, so obviously someone skipped clean up duty or really just couldn't be bothered (until what looked like a senior manager or the owner turned up later and there was suddenly a perfunctory effort to at least tidy up a bit).
And as if there was any doubt about the cleanliness and hygiene of this store, the bathrooms have a lack of hand soap, which I suspect may have also contributed to me receiving gastro later on in the night, as seemingly staff also use the facilities.
Anyway, upon receiving my order, two of the cheeseburgers looked like they were dropped in a vat of french fry frying oil (complete with their wrappers intact) as the paper wrappers were completely soaked and transparent with oil.
The burgers were a greasy mess and by this stage I really couldn't be bothered complaining to the staff as I'm sure it would completely fall on deaf ears anyway as obviously no one working here has any pride in their workplace or actually cares about their work.
We quickly ate our meals and departed, likely around 10.15pm, but let's just say that by 11.30pm, my stomach was doing knots and spasming like crazy.
By 12.30am, I had a rather urgent urge to paint the toilet bowl followed by a desire to throw up at 1am.
My body then decided to take turns expelling the junk from alternating orifices for the next few hours, every half hour or so.
Needless to say, after a sleepless night with 4 trips sitting on the dunny and 5 trips with my head in the dunny, I won't be going back to this McDonald's ever again.
The original store stayed open for almost 23 years and shut down for whatever reason, but I'm certain the current one in its current state of affairs would be lucky to last even half of that.
The franchisee (if they actually care) or McDonald's Head Office really needs to do something as I have visited numerous stores in various parts of the world and can't say that I've ever encountered...

Every single item arrived cold. We had other items missing. Received 4 small fries yet we ordered 4 medium sized. Sauces for nuggets were also wrong - we ordered 4 aioli and instead were given 4 sticky bbq. Nuggets looked and tasted like they were made 5 years ago. My Chicken Deluxe burger - Mc Chicken sauce was used but I’m pretty sure it’s meant to be garlic mayo. The buns for the burgers were so hard that if you were to throw it at someone, it would probably knock them out. Drinks had no fizz and were basically flat. Nothing was made fresh. We had to chuck everything out 🤮
Who was in charge of running Ubereats orders? The lack of competence shows... I completely understand human error and getting one thing wrong but to have our order show up cold, missing items, wrong condiments, and not up to food quality standard is just disgusting.
From memory, I’ve been through drive thru once and ordered twice through Ubereats and each time it’s been disappointing. It doesn’t even get busy there so I don’t understand why these continual errors are being made. I’ve read some other reviews and it looks like others share a similar experience.
Google really needs to adjust their rating system to allow no stars as this was how poor the service/quality was...

After they took my money then they say “ we don’t have chocolate flavour icecream. I don’t like the taste of vanilla and only get macas soft serve because they introduced the chocolate flavour.
This is the third time after they take my money on mobile order then when at drive through picking up she tells me no chocolate flavour. I understand machines may not work but just now the lady that was at window drive through was sooo fricken rude! She laughed and made joke at me for not liking vanilla . Then I tell her I don’t want it. She can’t not give me refund as it’s mobile order. She did not offer to give me anything else instead. Then my partner wanted to get it because we already paid for it anyways. He was gona eat it and asked if she can put more fudge on it cos he too don’t like vanilla.. she rudely stomped and swore under her breath!! We were shocked cos she was an old lady and her service is 0 , her attitude is 0 No wonder she is 50 and still working at macas! She was blond lady old age and was at night shift 11:30 Friday night 15/3 She literally took her feuston out on us for the fact she working late there! Last time I ever visit that location!! How rude!! God help all the staff and young people who have to deal with her on a...
