⭐️ Japanese izakaya vibes with a modern twist 🔍 We were in the mood for something comforting but elevated — and I’d heard Mikazuki had opened in Eastwood, bringing their signature donburi and izakaya-style share plates to the heart of Sydney’s Little Japan. It came highly recommended for wagyu lovers. 🪑 Moody lighting, timber accents, and minimalist decor set the tone. It has that chic, clean Japanese aesthetic but with a bustling, casual energy. Perfect for date night or dinner with mates who appreciate quality ingredients. 🍚 Ultimate Wagyu Beef Don The name says it all — ultimate. Melt-in-your-mouth wagyu sirloin draped over fluffy Japanese rice, with pops of texture and flavour from the crispy onion, foie gras (yes, foie gras!), onsen egg, and ameyaki sauce. Every bite was balanced with richness and that sharp hint of nama wasabi to cut through. It also came with a mini salad and miso soup, which were solid and refreshing palate cleansers. Would absolutely order again. 🌮 Spicy Sashimi Taco Think poke meets izakaya. A delicate yet punchy combo of fresh sashimi cubes, kimchi, spicy mayo, vinaigrette, and avocado, served in a crispy taco shell. Crunchy, creamy, zingy — a fusion bite that actually works. I loved this way more than I thought I would. 🍤 Spicy Yuzu Shrimp These popcorn-sized tempura prawns were coated in a creamy spicy sauce and paired with a crispy rice ball — kind of like an elevated snack you didn’t know you needed. The yuzu brought in a brightness that made it feel less heavy than your usual fried prawn dish. Crunchy, zingy, a little bit sweet. Could eat a whole bowl. 👀Next time I’m eyeing their desserts — the matcha brûlée looked like a vibe. ✅Mikazuki Eastwood is a level up from your usual casual Japanese — with premium ingredients, polished flavours, and enough edge to make every dish feel special. If you’re into wagyu, raw fish, or anything with spicy mayo, you’ll feel very seen here. Thanks for feeding us right, Mikazuki 🍚🔥

Tonight my family and I had visited this branch of Mikazuki for dinner. We are regular customers and come several times a week. Today as we were paying the bill we ordered 2 matcha cones to go, and the young male server had not used gloves to handle our ice cream cones. As we were waiting for the cones we called him out on not using gloves and requested a refund as we were uncomfortable. The man had the nerve to respond that he had washed his hands and it is clean and that it is fine and it doesn't matter. We had clearly witnessed him serving us during the meal and none of the staff wash their hands in-between serving meals and taking away used and consumed plates and cutlery or when receiving payments in cash at the counter. In the end, It doesn't matter whether the man washed his hands or didn't. As a general principle in the food and service industry, when handling food items, hygiene and gloves is a must, disregarding whether it is Covid season. I don't think admitting your mistake and apologising is that hard. Talking back and attempting to justify your faults with an invalid answer is not the solution. In the end is not the matter about the money, each cone is only $5.50. If we can spend upwards of 200 bucks each time we visit that's not the issue here. That server needs to either get some common sense or learn some manners. Or preferably both. A disappointing experience. Even though we are regulars and the food is great, I will need to reconsider whether and if my friends and I will come again.

Loved every bit of it! Their takoyaki has this great texture where the inside isn't doughy but it's nicely crunchy/crispy on the outside. The curry had a lot of depth in its flavour and is quite well worth! Some more mediocre Japanese places could have a more monotone curry for the same price point in comparison. The soft shell crab roll I'd give a solid 4/5, very nice but not out of the world. The only aspects I wish could be changed: The yume maybe shouldn't be served with shaved ice - I found my drink to be diluted quickly; I think on the rocks or in a chilled glass would be better as the drink should be served straight up. The restaurant could also look into serving their beers in the classic chilled Japanese beer mugs to really take it to the next level. Service at this store could be improved just a little bit, myself and another table nearby later on had to take quite a few tries at getting a waiters attention, but otherwise the service was great, food was timely, and the place was well presentable. Thank you owners if you take any of the feedback into consideration!

TLDR: Poor service, lazy wait staff. Great food.

I dined at Mikazuki Eastwood on Wednesday 8th October 2025 and, while the food quality was excellent, the service was extremely disappointing.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by two female staff members who directed us to a table. However, they threw the chopsticks and other table items down rather abruptly, leaving us to set the table ourselves. No one came to take our order, so we placed it via the QR code system provided, even though we weren't made aware that was how we had to do it.

After 30 minutes, we still hadn’t received any food or drinks. During this time, I observed the two female wait staff chatting at the front of the restaurant and the chefs talking in the kitchen. I also saw another table place their order in person and receive their food. This made me suspect that our order hadn’t gone through, which was confirmed when the table next to us raised the same issue.

We informed a male waiter, who went to check and he returned saying, “the order just went through", and displayed a time stamp on a receipt he had just printed. This was clearly incorrect, and told him so, as we had placed it long before, and the receipt hadn't been printed until we made the inquiry. This felt rather accusatory when he said 'the order just went through' when we had definitely placed it earlier, and no staff had even approached us to place any order.

When the food finally arrived, our sashimi platter came without wasabi or ginger, a staple of this particular dish, and the fish slices were noticeably thinner than those served to neighbouring tables. When I raised my hand to request wasabi and ginger, one of the female wait staff laughed at me, which I found both rude, embarrassing, disrespectful, and unprofessional.

Looking forward to hearing from Mikazuki on how they will rectify their poor service in future to match the standard of their...
