My Delight - A reminisce of the streets of Indonesia

Have had lived in Indonesia for a year, the sound of a bicycle ring in the neighbourhood was great news that something great was coming! It was a Bakmie (Noodles) wrapped in newspaper and served with soup in a bag. Although not the same, My Delight Bakmie definitely brought these vibes!

Highlights: The Bakmie.

Review: Bakmie Campur(Mix Meat)/Babi Kecap (Pork) - $13 Recommend. By far the best item at My Delight. If you are use to Indonesian food, this will remind you of home. If you are not, then let me tell you what Bakmie is all about! The Bakmie is dry noodles with flavoured chicken oil topped with chopped or minced flavoured meat. My Delight does a great job of representing the “traditional” aspect. Their noodles are a great consistency giving your a nice bite, the oil is fragrant and leaning towards the peppery side and the meat are nicely done. For the chicken meat, it’s nice and juicy and the mince meat is flavoured with a sweet soy. It’s a great mix of what it is suppose to be!

Sate Babi Manis (Pork Satay) 5 pieces - $14 Pass. Unfortunately I am not a big fan of this dish and it is mainly due to the pork meat used. Although the sweet soy glaze was great, the pork was too lean and made the Satay dry and tough to eat.

Note: I would of put 3 stars on this review due to the pork however due to the Bakmie and have had tried their other dishes (like their chicken - which is great!), it will be a 4.

Side Note of the Note: THEY HAVE TEH BOTTLE LESS SUGAR!

Update June 2018. Been here countless time since 1st rev in April 2017. Last visit found them hiking prices across the board (which is fine) but reducing portion n ingredients (on some dishes such as the keredok which now is dominated mostly by cabbage). Thankfully their noodle stayed consistent w only a slight drop in the soup quality.

Standouts were the bakmi campur 3.75/5 (mixed meat chook n i believe pork), a worthy rival to mee kocok bandung at nearby maroubra. My delight is less sweet and the noodles has a different texture to mee kocok's. Both specializes in indo style (of which there are way too many to mention) noodles. The broth which came with the noodles has been cooked with chicken bones therefore either mix some into the noodles or enjoy the broth on its own. The kredok 3.25/5 (indo style veg salad, NOT gado-gado) was a generous portion though missing the terong gelatik (an egg shaped purplish raw eggplant, i believe wren eggplant in english).

We also ordered the ayam kremes 3.25/5 (fried chicken with crispy batter sprinkled all over). This dish should be taken with the sambal belachan (shrimp paste based chilli sauce) along with steamed rice. Sadly it wasnt the soft-boned type of fried chicken which i was expecting. Worth mentioning is the sate babi 3.5/5 (pork satay) which was not served with the usual peanut based sauce but marinated in sweet soy sauce before getting cooked over charcoal. It is closer to sumatra style satay than anything i have...

An unassuming gem that should not be judged by its cheap and cheerful appearance. This is Indonesian cuisine at its finest.

Nothing says Indonesian like Nasi Goreng. It’s an Indonesian staple and “my delight” delivers authentically with a delicious, flavoursome take on a traditional favourite.

Next up was vegetable and peanut sauce similar to gado gado but with fresh raw vegetables. Wow! A delectable crunch with a rich peanut sauce of perfect consistency that was balanced in flavour and not oily.

Beef Rendang is a personal favourite (more like an obsession really) so my bar is high. The only way I could describe their take on this Indonesian classic is sensational. The beef was tender yet still held together with a rich caramelised flavour. The thick sauce was packed with layers of flavour then finished with finely grated toasted coconut. The portions are small but priced accordingly at $5. We ordered 2 and it was ample.

The service was excellent, friendly and accommodating. These people are really nice and made us welcome. The prices represent exceptional value. The food is fresh and the produce used is reflected in the flavour cooked in full view in a spotless kitchen. This place is clean The decor is basic cheap and cheerful yet appealing.

I rate this place highly in every respect as it bats way above restaurants twice (or at any) price. 5 stars my highest...
