They have a restaurant and bar onsite, “Nate’s: east meets west dining” where you can enjoy a meal at the restaurant, alfresco or order room service if you’d prefer to stay in.
We had both the buffet breakfast and dinner here. The buffet offered cold and hot options; from fruit, cereal and cold deli items to western hot breakfast options such as scrambled eggs and sausages. There’s tea, coffee and juices to accompany your meal.
For dinner, we tried the new menu. The name of the restaurant is apt, since there are both eastern and western options. Whilst there aren’t endless dishes to select from, the food is quality and nicely presented. We shared three dishes including a Riverina Sirloin steak, Cooked to order and nicely seasoned. It came with a lovely jus and presented with julienne carrots and toast and sweet potatoes. This was a decent portion. The quail was also a great choice, the tender meat was also flavoured superbly and served with similar sides to the steak. Miso cod is also a favourite and the one here is particularly good, served with Hainanese rice and edamame beans. We really enjoyed this fish and it’s delicious glaze.
They have a good range of drinks on offer st the bar, including craft beer on tap, an extensive wine list and cocktails. The drinks are well priced and there’s also an early...
Read moreI was looking for a nearby lunch while at the Moxy (unfortunately no lunch there at the moment) and came across Nate's Restaurant. Being attached to a hotel, I was a bit skeptical on the quality, but the menu looked not too bad and made my way over. Nate's turned out to be a great find.
Nate's is located to the left as soon as you enter the lobby of the Branksome Hotel. The space itself looks pretty typical with both indoor and outdoor seating areas as well as a bar. The server / bartender, Christine, came by to help me out and seated me.
Looking through the menu, I was debating between the green curry vs. the nasi goreng and Christine convinced me to get the curry. For 23 AUD, I was pleasantly surprised. the green curry was a full plate with delicious crispy pork belly. On the other end was a nice bowl of fried rice. It was all delicious. The green curry was well spiced and cooked (not super spicy at all for those that are used to green curry dishes). There were a lot of various veggies from corn to peppers to broccoli. And the fried rice had crispy onion and other spices mixed in. All-in-all, super delicious. I also got tap water.
Thanks so much to Christine for being so friendly and helpful! Really above expectations and would...
Read moreAm not always sure about hotel restaurants but this one is certainly worth the visit even if not staying in-house. Very quiet on Thursday when I visited so the two staff were able to look after us well - and they did which I appreciated.
East meets west they claim so I had an eastern sushi-type entree followed by the grilled short beef ribs, and then pecan pie for dessert, and it was all superb. Special thanks to the Chef running the grill that evening. Standard sides and sauces available (I had steamed veges, also good).
A reasonable selection of house wines (a bottle too much for me if I'm alone) including Shiraz, Cab Sav and Malbec amongst the reds so I was able to wash my food down in a very pleasant way.
I think that I will make the effort to return. Interesting that the table next to me had a couple also staying elsewhere who'd wandered up the road to get a "decent meal". Unless you know that Nate's is in the Branksome you'd probably never think to even look in Robey St for dining options but I highly recommend that people staying near the airport seek it out if they...
