If I could give the Royal Albert zero stars I would! I know that’s a cliche thing to say in a review, but I used to love this place, it was a regular after work haunt for years, then a while ago it went downhill! For a little while the food picked back up but was never as good so we visited less. However, I came in today for the first time in a few months and we ordered a couple of Tommy margs and some poutine and chicken wings. The cocktails were horrid, so bad we returned them, only to be given attitude from the bar staff about it. He then asked what we wanted instead, so I chose two more cocktails. He then tried to charge me for the replacements and gave further attitude when I had to explain that returning drinks without drinking them meant I was not accepting their quality. He stormed off leaving me with two cocktails and a ATM machine stating I needed to pay, so I had to wait for him to return to ask if there was an issue. The second cocktails were no better but at least drinkable. The poutine was fine, it’s hard to screw up chips and gravy. The chicken wings had alright flavour but they were tiny. My partner also noticed the beer list had gone downhill since their last visit. Overall we wouldn’t return, especially after the attitude from the bar staff! It’s a shame but there are too many pubs in Sydney worth giving my money too and this isn’t one of...

Blimey - I don't get by The Royal Albert often, but when I do . . . well, I closed this place last time I was in. It is a proper pub, with proper beer, run by proper staff. The real thing. Pull up a chair, pull up a pint, settle in, and have a proper chat with your friends and family. What, did you think you'd get time to do all that some other time? And set aside any silly urge to go on to the next place merely for the sake of variety.
Pro tip: The Hollywood is a good local alternative if for some reason you can't make the Albert.
Edit (Jan '23): bumping this to see if it's being shadowbanned - for some strange reason it's still in my reviews, but has been removed from Google Maps.
Missy The Cat Star Ratings:
5 - a place of rare genius that merits repeated return visits
4 - a strong effort with no major shortcomings
3 - a solid, worthy effort with perhaps one important thing to fix
2 - several important things wrong, but at least one important thing right
1 - can't be given a zero, doesn't deserve a dollar (as of review date)

Read moreI went to the Royal Albert hotel and got food poisoned, I had to go to the hospital and spent 2 days in bed with medication. I called to tell them about this issue and they told me to send an email with all the info so I did it, they didn’t reply, so I called them again at the following day because I need them to provide me details to report them with the council and they hung up on me. Really disappointing.
I sent 3 emails, all of them with evidence attached, first one on Thursday at 12:34, second one on Friday at 2:54 and 2:55, I also called 3 times asking for information about the on tap beer you are selling and Michalel, the manager said on Thursday “ we change the on tap beers all the time so I don’t know which beer you had yesterday” which makes it weird if they don’t register all the products they sell. That night the bartender mentioned that they only have one kind of half strength beer on tap, so many contradictions. The drink was potentially spiked and they show no care about their...
