Shalom Indonesian Restaurant was my first introduction to the vast and wonderful world of Indonesian cuisine. Serendipitously, I encountered one of the couple Shalom branches in Sydney and braced my mouth for the certain blaze ahead of me. Boy, was I eager to get started on my Indonesian culinary adventure once the plates arrived at the table.

There is no shortage of chicken renditions that Indonesia cooks up and my indecisiveness picked ayam bakar bumbu rujak from Shalom's panoramic menu. When I dipped the chicken into the rujak sauce, my mind was blasted into the stratosphere as a completely new flavour landed on my tongue. Defined by palm sugar and tamarind, the rujak injected a fruity sweetness into a savoury component to produce a tasty reinvention. On the plate, the grilled chicken thigh was smaller than expected and though it was tender, it needed the rujak to give it a profound character. As a fellow Asian, seeing jasmine rice cooked well, where each grain is discernible in one's mouth, is very rewarding. Especially to soak up all the rujak, the rice is essential here.

I jumped right into the mie goreng jawa ayam, an irresistible mound of sticky noodles pulsating with wokhei. While the menu indicates "level one chilli", it's clear that my level of spice tolerance is far below the average Indonesian person's. But instead of being repelled by the infectious heat, I was lured in by the indulgent piquancy of the sweet soy sauce and chilli blended together. The bouncy egg noodles were an impeccable vessel that enriched the spicy and sweet glaze with an additional oiliness. The weak link was the protein with dry fried chicken that only contributed a crunch to the dish, however, made redundant by the more appetising prawn crackers. Speaking of, the crackers, boiled egg and cucumber significantly helped with lessening the heat between the slippery inhalation of noodles. Not to mention the tidy presentation of each dish with pastel coloured crackers but I had already demolished the mie goreng before I could gawk over it.

Peace was restored in my digestive system and I am glad to have broadened my gastronomic horizons with the unabashed Indonesian...

I recently dined at Shalom Indonesian Restaurant in Mascot, and it was an absolute delight. From the moment I stepped inside, I felt right at home.

Let’s talk about the food! Shalom offers a sumptuous array of authentic Indonesian cuisine. Each dish bursts with vibrant flavors and aromatic spices. Here are some highlights:

Spicy Chilli Sauce: Their famous spicy chilli sauce is a must-try. It’s the perfect balance of heat and flavor, elevating every dish it accompanies. Chicken Rendang: Tender chicken slow-cooked in a rich coconut and spice blend. The flavors are deep and comforting, leaving you craving more. Beef Satay: Grilled skewers of marinated beef served with peanut sauce. The meat is succulent, and the sauce is an explosion of nutty goodness. Soto Ayam: A fragrant chicken soup with rice noodles, herbs, and a hint of lime. It warms your soul and satisfies your taste buds. Service Excellence: The staff at Shalom Indonesian Restaurant truly embody the spirit of hospitality. They are attentive, friendly, and passionate about sharing their culture through food. Whether you’re a seasoned Indonesian cuisine enthusiast or a first-timer, they’ll guide you through the menu with enthusiasm.

Final Thoughts: Shalom Indonesian Restaurant Mascot is more than just a place to eat; it’s an experience. I highly recommend visiting Shalom for an unforgettable...

Today, it's my first time visiting Shalom Indonesian Restaurant at Mascot Station. We was so excited as we all hungry after we went out for shopping. We ordered 3 different things as always. Once they serves the food on our table to be honest, from the presentation of the foods we ordered it looks all normal nothing fancy but we concerns for the taste mostly. For all 3 different kind of food that we ordered, unfortunately is really disappointing as they all tasteless. And we got no choice except to finished them all as we paid them already☹. Last thing I'd like to add is I hope Shalom Indonesian Restaurant at Mascot station could make more improvement for their taste of all the food they're serving to all...

Seems more like a take away place than a sit down restaurant as the vibe is very chill and there isn’t too much “service” - you order at the front and then take the table number to whichever table may be available. Due to staffing, we had to clean the table ourselves a little. Food took a while to come but when it came, it was a good serving size and full of flavour. I’d say that the actual quantity of meat on the chicken wasn’t as much as it could be/ was expected, and it was a little dry, but overall, no complaints. It is good for a quick meal on the way to the airport. The prices are affordable and the dishes are large. However, parking wasn’t too easy to find, and don’t expect stellar service.
