There are three things that need to happen in a restaurant (a) take orders (b) make food and (c) deliver orders. They can't do any of these credibly. And when they do it's not great. We waited an hour for food. Waiters wandered aimlessly delivering incorrect orders to so many tables it was just embarrassing and it happened over and over again. They blame their system but if there's a problem - pull out those notepads and do the basics. There's a military term to describe what went on here - a cluster f%@#. The sushi wasn't good and there were only five or ten plates on the sushi train for the whole time despite a fair crowd. Local sushi places do better product but you charge quite a premium over them, which is fine if its great product - but it's not. Don't bother with the purple lights until you can take an order and deliver it. We gave you plenty of latitude - we suggested you might want to write things down because the place is relatively new but the laurel and Hardy show continued. Interestingly, after all the system screw-ups, you managed to deliver a bill - funny that. For a bill with that $ figure on it, I could have gone to a real restaurant. So, now when asked, you'd have to say skip it. This wasn't first month blues it was just an all-round stink. You'd always hope a new place does well but it's not...
Read moreI’m a Foodie & was literally walking past at lunchtime with a hankering for Ramen heading to Chinatown. What a find. This place is kitschy Gem that bats above its weight.
At first glance I wasn’t sure it was open and when I walked inside I was blown away by the vibe.
Sushi train looked great but I opted for a booth. One of owners greeted me and passionately explained the menu.
I said I’m after Ramen and opted for a miso Chicken Kerang with delicious greens. The broth was incredible with a rich depth of flavour augmented by fantastic noodles. The Chicken was perfect!! Fresh & delightful. He asked me in advance what heat level explaining they make their own chilli oils.
I ordered some sushi from the train and it was fresh and authentic. Fresh tuna sashimi & California rolls that were wonderful.
The vibe of this place is as wonderful as the menu. Playing great music. All this and a killer cocktail bar with great beers.
If you’re after a great night out with great food & vibe, I’d highly recommend Snacky Chans (Cool name!!) These guys bring a cool Japanese vibe to Sydney. An unexpected Gem in an unlikely location close to public transport which makes it...
Read morePlace has a very relaxed and nice vibe. Clean, aesthetic, not too serious. Staff are very friendly.
I have been going aroind Newtown testing all the ramens. I saw Miso ramen with spinach and Corn?!!? Had to try. Unfortunately my confusion didn’t disappear when it came. Tasted the broth and suprise suprise, tasted like… corn and spinach. Why was there corn and spinach in my ramen? By the time I finished I still couldn’t tell you.
I was a little confused how this place was so highly rated and recommended after what i just ate. I looked around and what did I see? White people (I myself am white for reference so hope this doesn’t offend anyone or come across as racist). I think this place is messing with and maybe culturally appropriating some traditional dishes that unfortunately for the ramen, was a bit of a miss for me. Bao burger was great though, if not a tiny bit small.
If you are white and would like a taste of Asia but might be a little intimidated by the grandpa eating at the table at the front at a real authentic place, maybe this is for you. But if you have grown up on mammas dumplings, might fall a...
