Sparrows Leura — Restaurant in Sydney

Went here today with my mum and younger brother and got takeaway. I’ve worked as a barista for 2 years and even in rushses have never seen it take up to 40 minutes for bacon and egg rolls. The worst part was how unhelpful the staff were, I watched my mum ask about two front of house people for any update and she was brushed off both times. After 40 minutes the food finally came out and it was only one bacon and egg roll. We then told the staff we paid for three and they proceeded to almost act as if it were our fault. Asking if we were sure? Or constantly saying they didn’t know. Mind you before this we had already asked for help and were brushed off. This man behind the machine had a grey ponytail and he was the only helpful and kind server. He made us a coffee on the house after the wait.Even though it was not his fault.

If we waited that long and they were nice and helpful there is no way I would have written a review but they were unhelpful and rude. I think it’s just a lack of communication because you shouldn’t wait 40 minutes between a coffee and food if it’s takeaway. Hope the boss can sort this out but till then I’d definitely...

I was there Saturday 27th of September. I arrived at around 8:20am. I waited for 20 minutes before a waiter approached me and said “have you been served yet?” Every part of me wanted to say does it look like I’ve been served yet? But I stayed polite as I always do and simply said no, not yet. Mind you at least 5 other people arrived after me, all of whom were served within a few minutes of getting there, well before I was even approached. Why was I ignored for so long??? Was I invisible? No. I was sitting by the window on a raised platform, it wasn’t hard to see me. Is the cafe huge? No it’s not, there were at most maybe 20 people in the whole cafe at the time. There were 2 waiters on the floor and at least 3 other staff behind the counter. No apology for keeping me waiting so long. I was going to order breakfast but I was so fed up by then I just wanted a coffee and to leave asap. After all that, the coffee was below average. Really disappointed with our experience here. We ordered our meals for takeaway as there were no tables available at the time. While waiting, a table became free, so we asked if we could sit—and were told yes.

We sat down with our food and drinks (which were very overpriced), only to be interrupted shortly after by staff asking to clear the table while we were still eating. Then a waitress returned again and told us we had to leave because someone had supposedly been waiting for the table before we arrived. There was no reserved sign, and nothing was mentioned when we asked to sit. To add to the confusion, she had even offered to plate our food rather than leaving it in the takeaway containers.
