Honestly the best venue in the St George area for all occasions or just a casual dine in . Highly recommended ! Genuine Review.
I had my 30th Birthday party in December last year, before the event I was actually quite nervous, I wanted everything to be perfect so my guests can enjoy themselves, there was a lot to stress about (food, speed of service, drinks, the look of the room , etc), but the whole function team took all my stress away !! When planning the event, the event team was very helpful, they gave us plenty of suggestions on choosing our menu and setting up the room, We chose to have our event in the Sapphire room, we had a perfect view of the gorgeous summer sunset over the water that night. We had the deluxe cocktail menu and there was A LOT OF FOOD ! All the little cocktail items were delicious, all my guests were very full by the end of the night . Also on the night we had Blake ( one of the catering managers that was on that night ) and 3 other waiters to look after us , all of them were very attentive, the communication was excellent , the main waiter would always check with me upon the service progress, I didn't need to worry about anything after all , because they were very well prepared and the night was very relaxing . Blake told me whenever there's a function happening, there will always be a manager around to provide assistance when it's required. They have provided us with the best service ever. All my guests were very happy and told me they would love to come back with their families .
And that's what we did .
We would go to the club's Captains Grill restaurant for dinner for our casual meetings. We love the food here , they have a 3 course set menu for only $34 during the week , with 4 or 5 options in each course to choose , I don't think you can get that in any other restaurants locally. Yesterday, I had dinner in there with my family, from the set menu, most of us had the prawn and haloumi entrée , calamari entrée, and the scallops with minced pork entrée , they were to die for ! For main we had salmon, scotch fillet and chicken supreme they were absolutely fantastic ! Our waiter Elias was friendly, helpful and funny. Jemma their manager was always there to take our bookings and look after us with the best seats , she is the best to ask for when you want to make a group booking . The Captains Grill is our favourite restaurant in this area . I hope my review is helpful to all the others out there looking for a place to dine or celebrating a special event. I feel bad for didn't write a review about this place for so long , but when I do it will be very genuine.
Maybe the only one down I can say is they are very busy on the weekends so they can't guarantee us a window seat all the time, but on a nice day, sit on the balcony to have lunch is another beautiful thing. This place is truly a local gem....
Read moreWe have been to St George Motor Boat Club many times as members, and have introduced many other new members to the club. We've always enjoyed great food, pleasant staff, and the wonderful balcony for a sunset dinner on warmer days. We were extremely dissapointed with our recent experience and were approached by many other people whilst we were there who expressed the same dissapointment and somewhat shock about their expriences that night. Granted it was fairly close to Christmas and it was busy, but it started with the receptionist (or whatever the role is called) who was possibly way out of her depths to deal with the number of people coming in and was downright rude and insulting to our group. My friends arrived 10 minutes after and overheard her complaining about guests over the phone (can assume to a manager), and repeatedly being rude to others as they arrived. We were told this by people waiting in the queue to order their food. Another friend had to wait at the end to be picked up and heard the same lady being rude to other guests and was quite shocked about her behaviour. We also got told we had to move immediately on the balcony because they were now closing that section, without any warning, even though we had ordered food and the area we were being moved to was quite full. Another guest was particuarly upset becasue she had elderly guests joining her shortly who would have no option but to sit on the stools which they couldn't. In the end other guests unrelated to any of us saw this and all and expressed a) how unimpressed they were and b) how poorly this was handled by the staff involved, and ended up moving to make room on the chairs for this group. It was very kind and fortunate that they did, but the motor boat club staff did absolutely nothing to assist this. A guest then got told off by a manager for their behaviour who had done absolutely nothing wrong and did not deserve this treatment. I also note that the air conditioning was not working that day and it was a high 30 degree day so unpleasant for those indoors. I hope that this was a one off and that we will not see a re-occurence of the events of that day. For what is normally a wonderful venue, you really have to wonder what on earth happened but perhaps the club needs to look at some of the staffing issues (perhaps not enough receptionists for a busy period and that if they are going into meltdown that someone else replace them to avoid a disgruntled receptionist being front of house), and providing prior warning if the balcony is to...
Read moreIt was a beautiful summers evening by the marina and it was Valentine's Day, however at 8.34pm we were told the kitchen had closed 4 min previously and that we could try the bistro upstairs. After walking half the perimeter of the club and entering past the front desk, we were told that unless we became a member we could not enter. While one of us hands over our ID, email address, contact details and money, the other walks in to check whether the bistro is in fact still taking walk ins and if something might be of interest on the menu. Staff appear disinterested in attending the bistro entrance, however there is a menu on display which lists a couple of dinner possibilities. Newly paid up as members, we return to the bistro and ask for a table for two. The waiter looks around at empty tables and announces he needs a moment to locate a table for us. Mhmm. He calls us to where he would like to seat us, amongst larger groups and families, and places two smaller menus on the table. When questioned about the full menu on display at the entrance, we were told that only the special Valentine's Day 3 course menu is available at $60 per person. We take a closer look at the dishes listed and none were even close to being value for the cost quoted. We left and headed for a takeout pizza further down the road, then home to finally have dinner. On Valentine's Day in Sydney's southern suburbs. Bon appetit Baybreeze + St George...
