Won’t return! It has been many years since I visited this restaurant and no it is just a shadow of it’s former self. What was once a packed lively restaurant on a Saturday lunch, patrons lining up at the bar and door for a waiting for a table has now turned into a ghost town. I knew there must be a reason for the restaurant to be so empty with only one waiter and manager, I had to order the food for my suspicions to be confirmed. Once this restaurant had at least 6 waiters and 2 bar staff for this time of day. I got there early expecting it to be a nightmare to find parking and ultimately would need to park down the road in a side street, but was I spoilt for choice with most spaces available at the restaurant. I looked up at the windows, was it closed? Did I make a mistake with booking? Is my watch time correct? I soon saw a waiter peer out the window, now I realise he must have been surprised to actually see someone. Now for the experience, with little to no customers there is no ambiance and the restaurant decor hasn’t changed in a lifetime since it was Atlantico’s and still the same owner at the helm and still the same artificial empty greetings and farewells were offered without change. Not trying to be mean but even my old lady said he could care less about you being there. The waiter tried at times though appeared distant and answered questions oddly whilst he looked away performing other tasks, this made the whole table look at each other as if we were on the set of Faulty Towers dealing with Manuel. Food was nothing to get excited about but the prices made you think your getting a meal fit for a king but sadly your are dining in the second class car here. Child chicken schnitzel was dry and rubbery and reminded me of the dried squid you see hanging up for sale in Asia. The daily special of Lemon Sole also ran a close second to to this and was in no way cooked the way fish used to be proudly served and presented at this restaurant in the past. The old man enjoyed his meal but hey, he enjoys frozen lonely old man tv dinners and tinned meat with sauce so he is certainly no critique, he is just happy to get fed. The Seafood Platter was certainly not priced correctly for the quality and standard you receive. Those who enjoy food like my old man will rate and back this meal with their thumbs up approval but for the rest of us who actually enjoy fresh quality seafood will end up feeling disgruntled and cheated by the experience. On the platter the half Lobster was ok, could taste it was cheap WA frozen Crayfish and not the Tassie Lobsters Atlantico’s once famously used. The Balmain bug was great but only got half as you get only 1 per platter. Octopus was hanging up there on the street food cart next to the dried squid and just as palatable. Two types of calamari or squid on this platter, salt and pepper baby ring that tastes like flour and large rings that taste like bread crumb only. Oysters were fresh thankfully but you only get 6 on your $210 platter and they were small, nothing like the hand selected fat natural oysters that were offered years ago when the owner’s brother ran the kitchen (also an owner). Now for the stake in the heart, the king prawns and blue swimmer crab. We took this straight home to the fridge 7 minute drive away. An hour later I decide I would peel the prawn and pull the meat from the crab and make a salad for dinner with it. The first prawn had black onyx discolouration around the head, I have seen this before, don’t welcome it but cut it off. I smelt the prawn and almost fell over from the pungent smell. The rest of the prawns were the same and the last one I peeled was so slimy when the shell removed it felt abnormal. Yes the prawns were off. Then the crab, wow the ammonia smell reminded me of when my grandmother cleaned he floors or the hair salon. All the take home doggie bag went to the bin. What a waste of time and money. Potentially getting people sick? Bay Blu you got tired and old and don’t care anymore, isn’t it time to throw...
Read moreWE WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE AGAIN!!! Please save yourself the time, travel and money!!!!! TRUST US. For a restaurant that earned 1 chef hat? WHAT A JOKE!!! If it wasn't for my friend's birthday dinner celebration, my partner and I would have WALKED OUT that door.
I rarely leave reviews, but our experience was so terrible and awful that it needs to be heard. We ordered the 2 course set menu and these happened:
TERRIBLE SERVICE AND OUR WAITER WAS RUDE. My friends were catching up and exchanging "How are you's" when the waiter cut them off and replied TO THEIR CONVERSATION and said "Well, I will feel so much better if you just order now." -- Definitely, there's a better way to call someone's attention if you're waiting on them and say excuse me?
OUR ENTREE WAS FROZEN AND COLD. My friend and I ordered the homemade moussaka and it was served cold and frozen. We asked for a new one. Same rude waiter came by and insisted we won't be given a new one and instead, it will just be reheated. We were understanding and said ok. Entree came back the second time around--- AND GUESS WHAT? IT WAS STILL COLD AND FROZEN. How could the chef on the line send it out COLD... TWICE???? FOOD POISONING ALERT!
RUDEST WAITER IN HISTORY. Obviously, we changed our entree since the baked moussaka was totally a lost cause. So my friend ordered the whitebait fritters w/ aioli dressing. We gave a kind feedback to just say it was oily. (We weren't complaining. We accepted it as it is and was just honest since the rude waiter asked how the whitebait was). Rude waiter sarcastically replied-- "We cook it different every time, and sorry we can't make it like home." ???
MANAGER WAS USELESS. By mid dinner we were so disappointed that my partner went up to the bar and asked the manager for 10 mins of his time to just receive our feedback. We weren't expecting freebies, free meals, discounts or anything. We just sincerely did not want this to happen to anyone else. He said he will talk to us after he gets some people seated and will come in 10 mins. And guess what again? MANAGER DID NOT COME TO SEE US AT ALL. He was just behind the counter the whole time, polishing oranges?
So please. please. Save yourself the energy and go somewhere else to eat seafood. Go to Kickin inn or any other restaurant-- just not here.
P.S. If management is reading this, we were there August 15, 630pm for 13 people booking in case you want to fact check this. Table 32? Table 33.
A 100% true kitchen nightmare...
Read moreWe've been here a few times over the past couple of years and our most recent experience was by far the worst. Generally speaking I've been ambivalent towards the food here, but as my extended family has a soft spot for this place, I oblige and go when invited to celebrate special occasions.
On this occasion I decided to try the special. The 'ship and shore'. Steak with scallops, king prawn and half a bug. I like my steak well done by will happily eat medium well if it's more on the well side versus the medium side... I asked for a well done steak by was persuaded by the waiter to have it medium well, and I reluctantly agreed whilst emphasising it be more towards well and not medium.
After a ridiculous wait for a medium well steak, it came out... And I was medium rare at best, and in reality it was closer to rare. I sent it back and asked for it to be cooked as requested. It came back out, and it was now, medium at best... So back it went.
It came out the third time, diced into strips and cooked well, but as a result of being diced I to tiny strips by the precious chef in the kitchen, it was drier than old boot leather. Not only was my steak now dry and unappealing, but everything else on my plate was cold. I tried rehydrating the steak with my pepper sauce and found the sauce was watery and totally void of flavour. All in all the entire meal was a massive disappointment. More so than usual when I'm forced to eat here.
I'm blessed to have been able to eat in restaurants all over the world, and never have I encountered such a disrespectful way to treat a customer's request for steak cooked to their liking as I received from this restaurant during my most recent visit. Dicing up the steak like a fajita filling is childish and disrespectful and was a deliberate act to dry it out (also, taking it off and on the heat 3 times doesn't help either. Just cooking it right the first time is the right way to retain the moisture). I've had plenty of steaks cooked well done that remain succulent and juicy, so either the chef is lacking in ability to cook the same as other manage to, or is unwilling to cook the way a customer is paying for their food to be cooked. Either way, it's unacceptable.
All in all, I would say avoid this place purely based on the disgusting attitude of the staff parading around back of house carrying on like childish prima donnas.
Go to Lugarno Seafood instead for better food and MUCH better service from...
