We were drawn out to the The Australian Hotel and Brewery for the BBQ Food fest 2017. Whilst here we sussed out the brewery, it is an expansive pub, originating from 6 brothers wanting to create Australian Craft beers. They set this up in Rouse Hill and it is thriving. The brewery has indoor and outdoor sections, sports bars, dining areas and function spaces. There’s plenty of room to eat and drink. With a massive range of beers on tap and plenty brewed in house, you won’t be short of a new beer to try. A $10 paddle is the best way to find your favourite. Pick 5 beers and receive them on a tasting paddle and you’ll be set. We tried the Fire and Brimstone; smoked malts with old and new world hops as well as the Pilsner and Seishermanos; a maize and lemony light drink to clean your palate and perfect for an afternoon drink. It was a hot afternoon so we decided to mix it up with the fresh press apple cider - perfect for summer. Another interesting flavour was the Cranberry Sour - a Christmas exclusive! This blend of Berliner Weiss’s infused with fresh cranberries is awesome! We strongly encourage you to head into the brewery and try some for yourselves. You can also get takeaways and merchandise as well. The BBQ festival was a great day out with entertainment and a range of vendors serving up smokey charred goodness. BBQ has always been a thing in Australia, but usually associated with grilling some sausages, different types of meat or to bang a couple of shrimp on the barby. However this fesival was more associated with the American style BBQ, cooked low and slow on the smoker. Serving up smoked brisket, pork belly, burnt ends, pulled pork and beef rib. We sampled the BBQ a number of different crew; Bovine from around our neck of the woods always delivers, we now have some new favourites to add to the list including Black Bear BBQ. Black Bear was started by a couple of mates with a passion for BBQ and now have a joint out at Blacktown that caters to the masses. Another standout was Smokin Grill specialised BBQ food truck. Milky Lane also had a food truck, if you see this truck around makr sure you get into their burgers. The Kevin Bacon was a tasty behemoth with double beef, double cheese, bacon and truffle. Tsuru food truck was also there. We finished with something sweet from Loaded Magnums, which as the name suggests is a Magnum ice cream loaded up with additional ice cream and a range of toppings. The Australian Hotel and Brewery is a great venue, it was a hot day, so it was good the staff let us slip inside to enjoy our food. We loved the BBQ Food Festival and had a great time chowing down on some quality BBQ. We will definitely be keeping an eye out for BBQ Food Fest 2018.

Came here for a family event on a Sunday. The family had booked a table ahead in the playground area which was convenient for the children to easily access the indoor playground but did make it a bit noisy for the adults to chat. It was somewhat warmer in there compared to the bigger main area of the pub. There's a toilet accessible from that playground area too which was convenient than having to walk through to the back of the pub where the other bathrooms were. Ordering via the QR code on the tables was easy. Couples/individual families could order on their own device which eliminated the need to split bills and also liked how you could request that everyone's individual orders arrive around the same time as yours so there weren't different wait times for food/drinks to arrive. Food was pretty good though the chips were soggy since the steak was placed directly on top and the balsamic dressing on the salad was unpleasant. Thought it would be Ceasar dressing since the menu said 'cos salad' but my assumption was wrong. Portion sizes were pretty good. The Strawberry Fields mocktail was deliciously sweet - got a sprite too which I mixed with the mocktail as it depleted and was able to keep the drink going for longer. The general experience in the pub was pretty good and would probably come back again.

My family come here all the time. Our group of friends also. The food is great (consistent) and the boys love the beers. The kids make do with the old play area but they refurbished and its way better. We also have our child's Baptism reception here. We are very happy with the food and service! We also love the activities they have for kids during the school holidays especially the Zumba! Thank you Australian Hotel and Brewery! Decor is different ... Dark but it is a pub. Above is my original review of the Brewery that I never posted. I still have been coming at this very iconic place in Rouse Hill - a brewery and a pub. How very cool. Besides family dinners, I have monthly catch-ups with my friends here. We enjoy the atmosphere and food they provide. I believe it's under new management and I can wait what they have to offer.

New person at the door and the bar staff — absolutely lovely and very engaging. The rest of the experience, not so much.

We booked for an early dinner, not many people there. Placed and paid for our order and staff member came to the table about 5 minutes later to advise that they were out of one of the menu items and we needed to choose something else.

I noted that it was the beginning of the night and the start of the weekend, that it was pretty crappy that they’d already run out of stuff, to which the girl replied that they’d had a busy couple of nights and had run out — why the person who took our order didn’t know this is beyond me.

You’d expect a place that’s been around this long to plan better or at least restock what they have run out of to meet service expectations.

Our orders started to come out, the first burger was so poorly constructed that it was falling over and needed to be taken apart and reassembled. Patties were nice and thick but very dry, chips were lukewarm at best.

Schnitzel with garlic prawn “topping” came out with the topping in a bowl on the side (?!? perhaps they should explore what a topping actually is) , prawns seemed to be frozen prawns that had just been thrown into the garlic butter, the garlic butter was tasty but the prawns were completely flavourless and had that crappy rubbery texture that frozen prawns have. Also with lukewarm chips.

Bowl of chips that was ordered also came out lukewarm.

One of the burgers didn’t come out at all, so we went to ask about it and was met with a whole lot of arrogance and attitude by the kitchen person, who acted as though we were being unreasonable and a big inconvenience by asking for food we had paid for and not received. That burger also came out very poorly constructed and needing reassembly, despite having the skewer in it to keep it together (both burgers had come out with the skewers put through at an almost 45° angle, making them fall all over the place) but at least the chips were fresh and hot with this one.

Unfortunately this was strike 3 for us, we were giving this place one last go after a couple of similarly lacklustre experiences previously — after being our favourite pub for many years for our more special family gatherings, this place has really gone downhill since the recent ownership/management change and we will not...
