The Charles Corner cafe — Restaurant in Sydney

Superb tasting food! Seriously gourmet fine-dining level pizza and sides too! I had the Margherita pizza, and Garlic and Rosemary Chat Potatoes...let me tell you, this is stright to the point delicious in every aspect! Not just yeah it was nice sort of kind of...NO...it was so God-Damn delicious! And I have tried soooo many Italian food being in the inner west area! The base of pizza is light and airy, the cheese is soft and full of flavors...and finally, don't get me started on the Garlic and Rosemary Chat Potatoes...they are to die for one way ticket to heaven amazing! I could have these alone all day long! Restaurant service is amazing too...chief made this Garlic and Rosemary Chat Potatoes side a bit earlier than my pick up time, and he thought they were a bit cold for his standards (which were still warm to me), and he made fresh one, and gave me both containers of Garlic and Rosemary Chat Potatoes! What an amazing generous restaurant and service...great food...very affordable compared to other so called "fine dining" places, and yet, I bet this one tastes better than them! Trust me, this is easy one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to...no bulls* no fake reviews...just try it and see for yourself! I will definitely be coming back for more to try other delicious items from their menu! Thank you very...

A Once Stellar Spot Facing Inconsistency...

I’ve always regarded The Charles Corner Cafe as a local gem, but recent visits suggest things have changed... and not entirely for the better. Whether it’s a shift in kitchen staff or new ownership, the consistency that once set this café apart has slipped.

On this visit, I noticed significant variations in quality. The bacon, served across three different dishes, was surprisingly inconsistent; ranging from perfectly crisp to disappointingly soggy. Oil usage has noticeably increased, leaving some plates greasier than they should be. The mango smoothie, which used to be a vibrant highlight, tasted predominantly of banana, with mango seemingly forgotten.

That said, the cafe still offers a pleasant enough meal; the atmosphere remains inviting, and service is generally warm. Yet, when measured against its previous high standards, it’s hard to ignore the decline. I’ve adjusted my rating from a solid 5 stars to a still respectable, but now cautious, 4.

Here's to hoping The Charles Corner Cafe can recapture the consistency that once made...

Saturday 29th April, 2023. I'm a 15 year Hospitality, Food Safety, Barista Trainer and Assessor. I train all over Australia. My 32 year old daughter Whitney is a Canterbury local, she recommended The Charles Corner for lunch with her Son, my Grandson, Christopher. I got there early at 12pm ordered a caramel soy latte, the cafe was quite busy, the Latte came out in a timely manner, it was hot, the texture and presentation beautiful, the flavour immaculate. My daughter then arrived with Christopher, we ordered a cheese toasty for him, my daughter a bacon wrap and me a medium rare ragu beef burger with fries. The food all came out in a timely manner, the food was hot, fries hot pulpy and crispy. The staff, beautifully presented, beautiful to look at and so polite. I could not fault this Cafe & Restaurant it's a 10 out of 10 from me, flawless, world class. Never have I ever rated a business so highly. The prices to add were affordable and less than I expected.
