Canterbury Hotel — Restaurant in Sydney

They no longer serve food, a few months ago the bistro closed down without notice. We had a function booked for December which ended up not going ahead. We were never officially notified that our function had been cancelled, but after multiple follow ups on menus and drinks packages to which, and then learning the kitchen had been closed down, we had to find a new venue at short notice.

This pub caters to watching sport and gambling, and is not very family friendly.

The staff are mostly inexperienced and lacking in training. I once ordered a gin and tonic and was served a gin and dry, because ‘that’s how we make it here.’ I’ve watched three people struggle to open a bottle of sparkling wine because no one knew how to remove a cork.

It’s our local and we were really happy with it and came for dinner a few nights a week, but since there’s no kitchen, it’s no longer a good place...

A very obnoxious manager was on duty, and he was very combative with me. After one beer he demanded that I should leave the pub because I was drunk, which was completely inaccurate since it was my first drink of the day. Very arrogant manager of Asian descent who started telling me he did not need to explain to me why he was kicking me out. This level of arrogance should be written in the Guiness Book of World Records for a business to be thoroughly disrespectful and racist. It was a waste of my time and money visiting this disgraceful pub and you are forewarned not to visit this pub to avoid any dramas, combative behaviour, rude behaviour. Great locals pub.., Great staff, good for sport watching.. The main reason for only 3 stars is no hand paper towels in the men's room ,(can't comment on the ladies), and the "hand drier" is no more usefull than blowing on your hands yourself!... So many times while visiting the men's room, have witnessed many non hand washers, I'm thinking because of no drying options.. Especially during this crazy COVID time there should be access to paper towels for hand washing.. Hoping managers are...
