Vecino
Vecino is a marriage between Korean and Mexican foods. They add their own personal twists that combine the best flavours of both and they definitely make it work!
Located within the vicinity of Canterbury Station, there is lots of street parking nearby making it handy to commute here for an excellent feed. We were warmly greeted and had excellent service throughout the night.
The menu ranges from chicken dishes for 2, tacos, burritos, burgers, and salads. Plenty of sides to choose from too. With the choices being succinct it was an easy decision on what to have. As most of the meals are to share we went with;
Bulgogi Tacos Crispy Boneless Tenderloin Chicken (Served With Chips, Cabbage Salad And Pickled Daikon) With Teriyaki Sauce Soba Noodle Salad Hotteok Quesadilla
The tacos are your classic Mexican staple but with the flavours of Korean beef it was a tasty combo. The highlight was the oh so crispy chicken. It had so much crunch and the inside was still nice and juicy. Extremely happy eating it with the chips and salad. Dipped into the teriyaki sauce, it was bliss. The unexpected surprise was the salad. Salads can be boring and this certainly did not fit into that category. The slightly sweet dressing was the perfect foil for the salad leaves, sobs noodles, and Lim chi. Add marinated tofu , pomegranates, and vegetables, you were in for a flavour explosion. Definitely an upgraded vegetarian dish. Finished on a fusion dessert. Quesadilla was the Mexican part and the hotteok (filled street food pancake) was the Korean part. Crisp exterior smothered in nutella encased a crunchy nut and...
Read moreOn 06 July 2021, my partner and I decided to order takeaway from VECINO. We used the Facebook photos to find the menu and under the "Signature PREMIUM CHICKEN FOR 2 PEOPLE TO SHARE," we decided on the "VECINO GOURMET FRIED CHICKEN" priced at $32.00.
I called VECINO and explicitly read the order from the menu "...the VECINO GOURMET FRIED CHICKEN for two people to share."
However, after collecting the order and opening the bag, we realised that there was no salad - only the chips and chicken. At first, we thought that perhaps there was a misunderstanding and we were charged for a different order. However, after inspecting our transaction history, we noticed the transaction at VECINO was for 32.50 (50cents for the surcharge I assume).
Evidently, we were charged for an order that was incomplete.
When I tried to call VECINO to explain that our order was missing items as advertised, I had a conversation where she explained the salad is only given if the customer asks for it instead of the chips. I said even though the menu doesn't say anything about it being optional? She said it must be an old menu. I find that very hard to believe as the menu was taken straight from VECINO's Facebook page. I understand mistakes happen and would have just appreciated a simple "sorry" and the option to collect the salad.
I can't help but think this may be the result of the lockdown''s effect on businesses where they try to cut costs where possible. If so, lying to customers is not the way.
I find it even more disappointing because I've been coming to VECINO for...
Read moreI’ve always felt like it’s a rock and a hard place with these guys. Over the years I’ve enjoyed some of their food and really hated other stuff. Their quesadilla’s with cheese and pesto is possibly their best dish (truly beautiful) their veggie burger is dry and needs some mayo in it, but the corn fritters are decent enough. I ordered tonight after not ordering in a while and my girlfriend had the chicken burrito and enjoyed it. I ordered the veggie burrito and specifically asked in the notes for cheese and chilli (none were added) I don’t know why restaurants feel that vegetarian’s don’t want the usual stuff a burger or burrito entails… just because I don’t eat meat, it doesn’t mean I don’t want pickles, cheese, jalapeños, rice, chilli sauce and sour cream! It’s such a shame because this place does great items but others are dreadful. Their veggie burrito was the worst I’ve tried and full of tasteless tofu……. Boring quinoa and the odd chickpea with the smallest amount of guacamole. I really wish they would just do a normal burrito and fill it with vegetables and the usual...
