I finally got around to trying the premium hot pot option at my local! Fitting, with the temperature dropping recently. It's hot pot season baby 😜🥶 I first visited Hot Pot Palace last year. They do all you can eat hot pot at $42.80 a head and have a variety of different soup base options that, I feel, reflect the South East Asian heritage of many in the local Canley Heights/Cabramatta community. Think tom yum, tomato and mushroom, and pork bone soup. Next door is Hot Pot Palace Plus, the premium version at $62.80 a head. The difference is in what you're able to order. Along with the usual meats, vegetables and meat/fishballs you can pick out at the standard, you can also order cuts of wagyu beef, various shellfish (including sea snails and razor clams!), baby abalone and yabbies here too. There's also more soup base options like wagyu bone and herb, coconut chicken and I believe kimchi too. A good hot pot comes down to the soup base. I usually love Sichuan spice hot pot (which they do offer here) but I can never pass up the tom yum soup when visiting Hot Pot Palace. It's unique, and it's a nice balance of sweet and sour. There's a cool variety of dipping sauces here too. Again, some are inspired by South East Asian cuisine. Lemongrass, chilli and fish sauce dipping sauces for example. Is the premium upgrade a big deal? Personally, I don't find much difference when I eat hot pot with standard cuts of beef versus marbled wagyu beef. If you cook it just right, the beef is soft anyway! I also found myself eating more of the usual ingredients rather than the sea snails, clams and baby abalone. The abalone was the best part about the premium menu for me, but I reckon I'd be perfectly fine visiting the standard $42.80pp one in future. It's just as good, and it is really good value if you compare it to how much you're spending at other hot pot restaurants around Sydney. If you're going to go crazy on the shellfish and wagyu meat though, premium would definitely be the pick for you! 📍 Hot Pot Palace Plus,...
Read moreFirst time here. Absolutely loved it. When they refilled the soup. They did it with the proper soup base, not a chicken soup base like other hot pot places. Unlimited drinks is a massive plus... We loved this. The cutlery was all at the table and if you needed extra it was in the drawer underneath the table. The staff were very attentive and you didn't have to chase them down for a refill of soup. The tables were very generous size so you didn't have to squash all of your food and basically juggle it around your table to get what you wanted. They clear the tables regularly so you don't have a buildup of empty plates.
Only losing one star for the quality dessert That's the ice cream. Was a bit on the too soft side and the fresh fruit wasn't that fresh... I was actually surprised to see that there were no fresh oranges cut, which seems to be a standard at other hot pot places. All in all it was a great experience and we will definitely be back and we highly recommend it. If you are coming by car, make sure that you leave enough time for parking. Although there are a couple of car parks, it's very hard to find parking at...
Read moreWe have been here a few times now and it doesn’t disappoint. The price has gotten a bit steeper now so it will set you back $73pp~ for a maximum dining time of 90 minutes. It also includes unlimited drinks.
The variety of hot pot ingredients is pretty diverse. They have your standard fish and beef balls, various noodles, assorted veges etc. Seafood options include scallops, muscles, abalone, prawns etc. They also have small fried food section such as spring rolls, fried chicken, fries, fried buns. It’s a self serve for everything except the meat and soup base which you order via your phone. Service is quick and efficient as the meat (high wuality and wagyu standard) comes out almost immediately and the soup broth was regularly topped up.
The buffet includes dessert which they had soft serve ice cream - charcoal chocolate and vanilla were the available flavours when I dined recently. There is a also whole fridge stocked with choco pies and dont forget the fried taro stuffed balls and fried buns with...
