Title: Disastrous Dining Experience

I cannot express how deeply disappointed and alarmed I am after here. My 9 months and a week pregnant wife and I decided to treat ourselves to a meal, but it turned into an absolute nightmare.

We ordered a salad and a steak sandwich, expecting a pleasant experience, my order came wrong at the table after almost 30 mins. Little did we know, the aftermath would be dreadful. Not only did the food leave us with a terrible case of food poisoning, but it also had a severe impact on my pregnant wife, who, despite being in her ninth month, vomited uncontrollably—something we hadn't experienced throughout her entire pregnancy.

As if that wasn't bad enough, I found myself rushing to the bathroom over 10 times, grappling with the consequences of a meal that should have been a joyous occasion. It's disheartening to say the least.

In our current state, we're forced to head to the hospital for urgent medical attention. I urge anyone considering dining at this place to think twice, as the consequences of their negligence have far-reaching and potentially dangerous effects. This experience has been a health hazard, and I sincerely hope others are spared from such a distressing encounter. I will contact my lawyer too as i might have to move my wife induction that was planned for tomorrow.

On top of all I called the restaurant explaining everything and not a single apology was given sayng just that the manager wasn’t on duty today and tomorrow. Thanks so so much.

Used to be great, but has gone downhill. Food is overpriced and bad quality, and staff are rude and will try to rip you off.

I ordered a wrap and asked to swap the fried egg for scrambled (simple swap, fried egg costs the same as scrambled on the menu, and there was no mention of substitutions not being available). Order was accepted, no problem.

I receive my wrap, and I've incorrectly got a fried egg. I go up and politely let the man at the counter know. He tells me they don't do substitutions, and hence won't remake my wrap. Not sure why 1) you would accept the order and 2) not have this mentioned anywhere. There is an option to add extras to the wrap, so there's no issue with modifying (if the customer pays extra), so I don't see why swapping one fried egg for one scrambled is an issue, when on the menu, I can add one scrambled egg for the same cost of one fried egg. Cost wise it's the same wrap.

I end up having to buy another wrap because despite the fact the Cafe is at wrong here, they won't fix the issue (not sure why I even accepted that in the first place). Finally get the correct wrap, and it's so greasy and drenched in sugary BBQ sauce that I have to throw it out after three bites. I am still feeling nauseous even now from it.

Genuinely can't understand the reasoning behind this, and have never experienced that at a a cafe before. Manager successfully ripped me off, and got me to buy two wraps (which I guess is what their reasoning is). Will NOT be...

Tropicana Cafe is hands-down the best cafe in Coogee. I’ve probably been here close to a hundred times over the years, and I’ve never had a single bad experience. The food is consistently fantastic — fresh, well-portioned, and delicious across the board. Whether you’re here for breakfast, lunch, or just coffee, everything is on point.

The coffee is incredible — smooth, rich, and perfectly made. The staff are some of the friendliest and most accommodating you’ll find anywhere. They remember regulars, greet you with a smile, and go out of their way to make sure you’re comfortable.

On Tuesdays during the winter, they run a $12 pasta night, which is amazing value and perfect for a cozy midweek dinner. It’s little touches like this that make Tropicana feel like a real community staple.

It’s also really well-located — just a short walk up the road from Coogee Beach, with plenty of street parking around.

Highly recommend Tropicana to anyone looking for great food, coffee, and welcoming vibes. This is what a neighbourhood...
