A rather disappointing experience when we visited today with our infant and two dogs. The manager's appalling behaviour left us speechless. We're regulars and love their food. But since having the baby, we mostly do pick-ups. We were back at the restaurant to dine in tonight. Staff were informed that we've our dogs with us, and I asked for an outside table. I asked for a high chair, and a member of the staff just dropped off an unclean high chair. I cleaned it myself, no drama. Anyway, after I settled my infant in the high chair, ordered dinner and drinks, my husband parked and arrived with the dogs. He was stopped at the entrance by another staff member and said the restaurant is not dog friendly. We were obviously surprised by the contradicting messages on pet policy. Anyway, the staff didn't have the decency to come to me and apologise for the inconvenience. Instead, the manager, John, made the "the door is that way" hand gesture and said JUST LEAVE. Neither the Manager nor a single member of staff tried to accommodate and offer a solution, like - would you like to do a takeaway instead? As soon as they saw the dogs, they asked me to pick up my baby and leave immediately. I can't believe a fancy restaurant like Verace knows nothing about hospitality and offering resolutions. Moreover, the manager speaks to customer like they're beneath him and doesn't deserve his politeness. Shame on the Manager, for his rude behaviour and disrespectful attitude towards a customer. I reminded him many times that he didn't need to be rude and speak to me in that derogatory manner, but he stood his ground and kept saying, "Just leave." I've never had anyone from a customer facing/ hospitality industry speak to me in this disrespectful and dismissive manner. I mentioned that I remember we sat with them once outside and thought they're pet friendly. The manager in a hostile and unkind manner kept saying "never," "not true," "just leave," and kept physically showing the exit. So disrespectful! Now, I completely understand if their pet policy has changed or perhaps that one time it was off peak or empty or the staff on duty saw two well-behaved goldens and made an exception. Regardless, I'm happy to leave if you don't want me there or your restaurant's outdoor space isn't dog friendly. My expectation would have been that a member of the staff would come forward and say, "I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. The staff who seated you wasn't aware of our per policy. But can we pack your dinner to go? I see you've already ordered and have a baby. Would a takeaway be okay?" I would gladly say yes. In fact, I'm sure the manager and staff didn't just shoo us off, o , I would suggest, let's do a takeaway.
I'm not sure if Management has changed or John casually misbehaves with customers, but what a sad experience. It could be racial discrimination, or he gendered hate. I would be surprised if he would speak to a white man in this debilitating way. Regardless, shame on the manager and the staff on duty for tarnishing the...
Read moreI would not recommend anyone to go here anymore. I never complain or leave bad reviews but after no response I think it’s important to do so. We are long term customers and always loved it here (when they were winning awards) but I believe it has changed ownership and the customer service if any issues is non existent. Food quality/quantity is not the same.
We ordered delivery as just came out of hospital after having a baby and only live a couple of minutes away. When the food arrived it was small portions, dried up potatoes, pasta had hardly any seafood, pizza was under topped and could only taste blue cheese and it was all cold.
When I called up on the night I was apologised to and advised they were aware of issues with food. I advised I wanted refund or order remade/credit etc they advised there was no manager and they would call me back within 48 hours to organise this. After 4 days of not hearing from them I called again and was advised to email which I did. Manager then emailed back a few days later advising it was ubereats fault and they are unhappy with ubereats in general the fees they charge etc. I advised ubereats got here earlier than expected and came straight here it looked like they were waiting at the restaurant for a while. The issues wasn’t just that food was cold. It was quality, toppings and quantity. They said nothing they will do as watched cameras and everything was correctly made.
I think instead of checking cameras (which I’m sure you couldn’t see every dish being made) they should listen to their loyal customers and fix the issue as they advised they would on the first call. Manager was awful and didn’t reply after that. They also shouldn’t slag off one of their partners who is bringing them in buisness and if they aren’t happy with ubereats or delivery partners they shouldn’t use them. If there is an issue with food and customer service that is with the restaurant not delivery partner.
It’s such a shame to see somewhere great go down hill with poor customer service and how bad the food is now. It is overpriced for what you now get. After reading reviews on various sites it seems others feel the same with new owners. Don’t waste your money here...
Read moreWent here last night with a large booking of 10 people.
Pros: Food came out very quickly, even for a large table. Taste of almost all the dishes we ordered was decent (calamari, gnocchi four cheeses, seafood pasta, prosciutto pizza, Italian sausage and roast potato pizza, truffle pizza, margherita pizza).
Cons: The worst part of this dining experience was the service. We had spoken interactions with three waitstaff (two people when asking for water and one to take our order).
The third staff member was a 20ish man with curly hair who took our order. He spoke to us in a monotone the whole time and I got the overall impression that he was slightly rude. Of course we are not Italian but if you give a proper try at pronouncing a dish whilst pointing at it on the menu, you could expect the waiter to understand and most likely correct your pronunciation. However, his overall lack of interest meant that he wasn’t even looking at the person ordering nor what they were pointing at in the menu, and he just said “what?”. Honestly, these are small things but compared to the other staff who were polite, this man came off rude and I don’t think he should be taking orders. Easily could have just been a bad day for him but it made us feel bad about an otherwise fine experience.
The garlic bread was pretty disappointing, the restaurant uses a hard bread for most of its bread starters so guess this is just a mismatch in preferences. However, there were only 4 small slices so the presentation of the starter looked pretty poor.
The starters and pastas were slightly smaller than expected portions.
Not a pro/con: The pizzas were large, but very floppy and soggy in the middle. Maybe it’s just the type of toppings we chose and how thin the base is, just expect this could happen...
