White Rabbit Dolls point — Restaurant in Sydney

White Rabbit Cafe was a new experience. Little marionette coffee is a great choice of bean supply, bitter enough for a bite but also smooth. Great, double espresso. Breakfast was the XO chili eggs. A dish that felt like it was combining a dinner risotto with the shitake mushrooms and "XO" chili sauce with a well scrambled egg on sourdough giving it a breakfast disguise. It is unique, but everything unique isn't good. Fresh coriander and chili with the earthiness of shitake mushrooms on one side, clashing with buttery smooth scrambled eggs on sourdough. The chili sauce makes the toasted sourdough soggy and a waste of carbs. Almost like this is trying to be a bahn-ma-ti and breakfast on the same plate. I think deconstructing the dish on the plate, to preserve the bread, egg and mushrooms on one side. And coriander and chili on the other might open room for a creamy inclusion. Maybe a hummus, sour cream or cheese variant to offset the overwhelming savoury clashes of mushroom, egg and coriander. Making the chili spicier might turn the wheel too far into an asian dish, but it is also extremely mild without much of a bite except for its sweetness. Its a tough dish that has eastern influence, and is trying to be different which is always great to see, but I think it has room for improvement. Atmosphere is nice but needs a little more life if it wants to differentiate itself from foodies. It unfortunately wears the same coat, painted a different colour. Maybe some greenery or personal staff/owner contributions to framed pictures. Although atmosphere can be very subjective to the reviewer. I hope this was constructive...

I booked a table through their online booking system 2 weeks in advance for 7 people on Sunday 25/8/24 for my birthday. On Sunday 18/8 (a week earlier) they called me to ask where I was - I clarified that the booking was made for the following week and they apologised and confirmed this was in the system. I called the day before to confirm my table would be ready for the next day (given the confusion the week earlier), they confirmed my booking was in the system. On arrival for my birthday on 25/8 there was no table available and no booking in the system, no apology and the only offer was to be seated at a 4-seater table while the rest of my family (including 2 children and a baby) waited outside for a table to vacate. Steve and Dan are truly amazing souls and from the first time I entered their shop they greeted me with smiles and whirled me with the barista banter that everyone craves in the morning to start their day with all the good feels that make you feel welcomed and part of the rabbit fam! Steve made me one of the best cappuccinos I’ve had in the area. They have brought the little marionette and Sonoma to my front door - enough said !
