Yume Sushi north strathfield — Restaurant in Sydney

Yume Sushi is a small Japanese restaurant off the main drag in Concord / North Strathfield. It's not the biggest restaurant and the seating is very tight.

Atmosphere - 4 stars We didn't have a booking and we were seated right away. Yume was probably 70% at capacity when we arrived, and filled with Japanese families (always a good sign). The place did have a nice and authentic Japanese vibe going, with cool decorations and some Sake bottles on the wall. I liked what I saw, but it was all pretty stock standard and basic - nothing to push it up to the level of five stars.

Service - 3 stars We were seated fast and given menus, plus table water. However, I found the food to come out quite slow and we were not pleasantly engaged by the wait staff, i.e. there was no warm and and friendly chit chat, however despite that it was efficient, albeit a bit cold and lifeless.

Food - 4 Stars I got a Karage Chicken Noodle Salad and my daughter got the Kid's Bento Box. Her box was huge for the price and packed with lots of things that she loved. It was so big, she wasn't able to fill it all. I thought this was incredible and one of the coolest kids options I've ever seen at a Jap restaurant. My dish was pretty ordinary. I expected my Karage chicken to be crispy, crunchy and hot... instead it was soft, saucy and luke warm. I thought it would come with thicker Udon/Hokkein style noodles, but it came with thinner noodles that I don't enjoy as much. However, despite all this, it was tasty enough for me to finish and a decent price.

All up, YUME is a great Japanese option that ticks all the boxes. It won't blow your mind, but it doesn't need to either. It does the job and will leave...

The sushi platter we ordered was defrosted fish from the freezer - mushy and bland. As I am writing this I am recovering from an upset stomach because of it. A reviewer below also received stale fish.

The beef bento we ordered was served hard and chewy. More cost cutting again as the new owners are no longer using fresh produce, in an attempt to shore up their margins.

We ordered our food via the hungry panda app (which was the only option) at 6:30pm and called the restaurant at 8:30pm as our food had still not been delivered. When asked they said to take it up with hungry panda via email. I said that I just want our dinner. They said they cooked our dinner over an hour ago and we then asked if they could recook our meal and we would come and get it. I was then told the kitchen is closed and they wouldn’t remake our food. The delivery came at 8:45 and the driver said we should get a refund.
