We needed a mid winter break and had wanted to explore Cygnet so booked a three night stay at the Old Bank. There are 3 rooms, all of which have private bathrooms but only one of which is en suite (the others are just across the hallway). The en suite room has a queen bed and the other two have king beds. We booked the queen room. Comfortable and warm with a nice bathroom and with a great view of Cygnet comings and goings. The rooms are on the first floor up the staircase. The ever pleasant Tim carried our luggage up to the room so Job Done. There is a small and charming sitting room on the ground floor which is an annexe to the conservatory restaurant until about 4pm and is then for the sole use of in-house guests. Has a warm and welcoming open fireplace. We had pre-ordered in-house meals which are left in a corridor fridge near the sitting room. These are able to be heated in the microwave. The soup was utterly delicious but the lamb pie (salad greens on the side) suffered from a lack of conventional heating. Pastry does NOT like a microwave. Back upstairs we had some issues with the TV which was unable to access our favourite programs. Tim made a valiant attempt to train our minimally digital brains but to no avail. However this was not a dampener. Breakfast is included in the tariff and is varied and delicious. The coffee is hands down the best in Cygnet and on a par with the best in Hobart. All the staff are lovely, extremely helpful, patient and really excel at their jobs as well as being thoroughly nice people. There was only one major issue which involved another in-house guest who had been given a free kick to have her dog with her. Unfortunately she was deaf to our pleas to keep the (rather large) dog on a leash and under control and seemed to delight in causing anguish. (One of us has a real phobia and the other has severe allergies. This was explained to her.). We tried to avoid her but there were inevitable incidents, some not dog related but also providing her with an opportunity to be a very rude and inconsiderate neighbour. None of this was the fault of the Old Bank staff who did their best to manage the situation and seemed equally uncomfortable with it. They were at all times impeccably polite to her while looking after us. In spite of this we actually had a really nice time and appreciated the care and attention which has gone into the accommodation and the cafe. We will most definitely return. And have been advised that dog woman has...

We were even assisted us with our bags down to our car! |We have stayed here before and would be keen to return. |We also enjoy the cafe and visit their lovely shop downstairs. |An excellent, centrally located , traditional style accommodation- beautifully restored and renovated. |We...
