2 breakfast meals, were good quality and the 3rd never arrived! 3 of us ordered - 2 standard egg breakfasts with additions and unusually a Nasi Goreng on the menu which I decided to try and maybe share, so I asked for a spare plate - the menu said it contained salmon but the person who took our order said they were out of salmon and I said that was ok - she confirmed that as she left the table but hadn't written any of our order down - 2 meals arrived and after a significant time I inquired about the nasi goring - she replied that after our conversation, I had decided not to order it and just have the spare plate for sharing the other meals and no apology - now here's the thing - customer service 101 - (especially when 3 people vs one all heard the same conversation) - the customer is always right! - she was clearly ticked off about it and rather snooty but said she would get the kitchen to make it up - then she returned a few minutes later and said the kitchen was closed for breakfast and so that couldn't be done - even though they were open for lunch there was no offer of an alternative meal or any compensation let alone an apology which should have been profuse! - we shared 2 meals with 3 people and when I paid at the counter she just took the payment and casually said 'sorry about the mixup' without making any eye contact - she appeared to be the senior person so there was no-one to complain to at the time - It doesn't matter how good the meal is, service should always be delivered with a smile and respectfully - I'd never recommend this...

Over the course of a weekend we went to the lounge three times.

The first time we got a takeaway pizza on Friday night. This was truly amazing. One of the best pizzas I have ever had (I had the bacon and chilli pizza, but I suspect the others would be equally good).

The second time was for dinner on Saturday night. Despite being reservation only they were very understaffed. The food was good, and serving sizes were neither too large or too small - but the food wasn't anything special. Unfortunately because they were so understaffed we were simply unable to order dessert. We went up and got the dessert menu ourselves (after 20 minutes of trying to get the waiter's attention), but the waiter simply ignored us for 30 minutes (until we got up, paid, and left). I wish we'd got another takeaway pizza: it would have cost a third as much, been an hour and half quicker and tasted better. One good point though was the sourdough bread we got for starters, which was very good.

The third time was mid-morning on a Sunday. There did not appear to be any staffing issues. I ordered a caramel milkshake which was okay but nothing special. My girlfriends' coffee was in the same boat: good, but not excellent.

In summary, the pizza is truly excellent (if this was just a pizza place it would get five stars easily), but the...

A dreadful dining experience today. Went for lunch and found the menu to be extremely limited. 4 dishes on the menu exceeding $30, 3 smaller sized dishes at around the $18 mark, then a few side dishes (not exactly light lunch options on their own). No all day breakfast option either, which for a place like Cygnet would be a good thing to offer especially given very limited lunch menu options. Very disappointing and not a patch on the cafe it used to be prior to current ownership. When i spoke with the establishment about the disappointing menu, i was told that they provide a menu that they are happy with and were not in any way receptive to the constructive feedback being offered. I would add that there were very few diners there, compared with the bustling and well patronised Old Bank Cafe just a few doors along. Clearly those diners knew where to get a good meal with ample options to choose from. Sad to say i will not be heading back to the Red Velvet Lounge any time soon. And to add insult to injury, a surcharge for paying by card was applied. Very...

Dropped in for sweets because the local ‘Little Lush Cakerie’ was closed and the person working in the shop next door recommended their sweets as a good alternative. Nice casual but cozy atmosphere with wood fire, consistently busy (but not overwhelmingly so) as my second time in the area. Had a raspberry sherbet doughnut and was very nice with delicious tang from the sherbet. Companions had the gingerbread cake with cream and said was pretty good but a bit dry. Also had the florentines which were so good they ordered a second. Asked the staff if they make all their own sweets and they confirmed they do. Nice to see they look to have all their own preserves/pickles on display so I imagine they make all that themselves too which is nice. Staff were friendly but coffees took a long time (10 mins) and were just alright - I think they may have been short staffed though which could have been the cause. Everything else (savouries, breakfast, lunch etc) on the menu looked very yummy. Would happily have brunch their next time. Worth dropping in if your in the area.

I really want to love this place because I think Cygnet is so beautiful....but it's really hard to, given the slow service. I came here once 9 years ago and it took them an hour and a half to realise they hadn't put our order through in an empty cafe. Fast forward to today, we placed our pizza order at 12:30pm and it didn't arrive until 2:00pm, and I'm inclined to believe they forgot again. Especially considering other tables that ordered after us received their pizzas within half an hour of ordering. That being said, the food was actually delicious! And staff were very prompt and polite bringing over share plates and cutlery. I don't doubt that it's just a staff shortage problem, but it is such a shame because this cafe has the potential to be top tier! I would still recommend a visit.

Great friendly service. Our group ordered all three pizzas and the nachos ($17+$1 for sour cream) from the menu. Pizzas are a good size and the roast pumpkin one was great. On the expensive side for vegetarian pizzas and small menu but tasty non the less. Good to see local beers on the menu with a few different styles, only two beers on tap and the others were bottles so it would be great to see some other beers and ciders on tab in the future. Live music was good, although a bit loud for people to chat across a table. Really nice venue with its open style inside with tables and a few sofas and a beer garden out the side to enjoy some summer sun.
