Bit of a shocker, this place. Spotted few cockroach hanging around the ice cream area — even looked like there was one inside the ice cream itself. Deadset turned my stomach.

The waitress in grey uniform didn’t crack a smile the whole time — came off real cold. Asked for some tap water and got told we had to buy water instead. Pretty rude, especially considering she’d just served up a scoop from the tub that might’ve had a roach in it. Wouldn’t have ordered anything if the kids hadn’t been begging for ice cream.

Ordered a coffee and it tasted pretty awful — bitter and watery, like it was rushed or just poorly made. As for the pot of tea? Not even close — just a tiny cup with a teabag and hot water. No refill, no actual pot. Bit misleading if you ask me.

Then came the bill — only when we paid did we realise they’d quietly added a public holiday surcharge, a card fee, and I noticed there’s even a Sunday charge. No heads-up, nothing mentioned — just a tiny note in small print, like they expect some poor old lady to squint and spot it. Felt like a total rip-off.

Honestly, way overrated based on what we saw online. If you’re in Tassie, give this place a miss and head over to Bicheno instead — same kind of flavours and even more, but way cleaner, better service, proper drinks, and staff who...

Left feeling ripped off. We ordered the blue eyed trevalla and chips and the squid and chips, that cost $41.80 (sauce is also extra). We were unsure whether we wanted chips so we thought we might just get the squid on it's own and we were told by the cashier (who was despite the bad experience quite friendly), that we could get 5 pieces for $10. We ended up deciding to get the chips anyway, but we were only given 3 calamari and a sorry amount of chips for the price. To spell that out, we could have got 2 more squid rings and chips separately for $16.80 yet we got the "meal" and paid more for less squid and probably the same if not less chips. In addition to this the blue eye trevalla fillet was overcooked and for $22.90 this is poor value. The only positive really was that the squid was cooked just right. Didn't bother coming back...

Fish and chips were freshly cooked, really tasty and very filling. Would go back here again for the food, and the ice-cream looked delicious, but... if the website says the Fisherman's Basket is $28.90, why are they charging $35 (that's a significant price hike by any standard) and if the website says they are open until 7pm, why are they desperate to shut the doors at 6.30pm, even though people are still arriving to place orders? Also, a bit of flexibility in the menu wouldn't hurt. If you have sweet potato fries on the menu, and I'm willing to pay extra to swap fries for sweet potato fries, it would be a good customer experience to allow that. Shame that these small things impacted what could have been a...
