My family attended Penguin beer co recently whilst up visiting family. The restaurant/bar is clean and well presented with a great outlook and has probably all the factors for success but unfortunately for us the experience was exceptionally poor. I’m not sure how we lasted the one and a half hour wait for food with our 7 year old and 18 month old to be honest, it was a bit up and down and even our 7 year old started to get the grizzles being hungry. We approached the bar only to be ignored for 10 minutes whilst the wait staff served anyone but us including those who approached the bar after us as they would have known we were enquiring about our food. During this time my Hubbie went outside with the kids and our food came out with the waiter confused as to the lack of anyone at the table. I noticed and grabbed his attention. I explained we weren’t at our table as we were about to seek a refund as we had been waiting for an hour and a half. The response I got was an irritated apology and a jab about being short staffed. Now I understand being short staffed but, it doesn’t excuse lack of communication or failing to value your customers. There was no other gesture of good will, partial refund, or anything that would have been warranted in the circumstances. If we had been communicated with prior to ordering or even during the order process about staffing, or how long our meals might take we would have been understanding and it would have allowed us the option to seek food elsewhere and experience Penguin beer co in a more positive light , all it took was transparency and communication. My husband said he could see the potential in the place as his burger was very good for gluten free, however my sons chicken was dry and my loaded chips were just ok. We would not recommend...
Read moreWe had the best time at Penguin Beer Co. and can't wait to come back again soon! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was super welcoming and laid-back, and we were lucky enough to be looked after by Cassie, who was absolutely amazing. She was so friendly, helpful, and made our whole experience even better - huge shoutout to her!
We kicked things off with the beer tasting paddle, which was such a fun way to try a few different brews. Every beer had its own unique flavour, and it’s clear the team puts a lot of love into what they do. Whether you're a beer lover or just curious, it’s definitely worth a try!
We also had the raspberry gin which we paired with Solo, which was such a refreshing surprise - light, fruity, and just delicious. A perfect drink for a sunny afternoon.
Food-wise, we went for the Beach Burger and the Go West Burger, and honestly, they were both spot-on. Juicy, full of flavour, and really satisfying - exactly what you want alongside a great drink.
The whole place just has such a good energy. Great food, great drinks, awesome staff, and a chilled-out atmosphere that makes you want to stay a little longer than planned. It’s the kind of place you visit once and immediately start planning your return trip.
Thanks again to the team - and especially to Cassie - for such a great experience. We’ll definitely be back next time...
Read moreClosest thing to our "local" as you can get! Glad they got umbrellas for the outdoor deck now, as the Tassie sun is vicious! Brought visiting friends here for a taste of Tassie brew, also a late feed. Burgers are excellent and filling, reasonable prices. Our German Shepherd girl loves your chippies ( the few we can part with!) I would make a point of insisting that dog owners keep their pet leashed at all times. Some twit with a rat-dog came in WITHOUT a leash on it and his cantankerous mutt tried to attack our girl, who was leashed and quietly sitting under our table (small dog syndrome!!). I had to shriek like a banshee to get the ignorant owner to call his idiot dog off. Yet if our girl retaliated, she'd be the one targeted as vicious. There was also a gentleman with a service dog there, and that temperamental mongrel could've had a go at him as well. Selfish people with off leash rat-dogs need to be reined in or kicked...
