Penguin Country Bakehouse — Restaurant in Tasmania

My fourth visit and especially not impressed today. Out of the four times only received good service once, every other time it felt like we was rushed away and barely getting time to say what we wanted to order. Fast service should still be good service. We ordered 3 pies and a tea asked for the bags on the side so it won't be too strong. Only got 2 pies and when we mentioned they forgot the other, another staff member took it as the girl went to grab it and gave it to another customer. Since there was limited pies I had to choose something I wasn't originally after and all 3 pies was cold, 2 teabags in the mug for some reason making it way to strong, mince had no flavour and your lucky to find mushroom in the mushroom pie. Purchased an apple crumble slice, an apricot crumble slice and a berry crumble slice to bring home for dessert to share between a few people. Not sure when it was baked, at least a few days ago because all of the pastry touching the fruit has gone soggy and strange. The fruit in all three slices is basic tinned fruit at best, with no additional spices or flavouring and needs to be baked longer so that it's actually cooked. The apricots are tinned apricots halves and they are still slightly raw. The base on the jelly slice we brought our daughter is almost 2cm thick, it's incredibly dense and almost difficult to bite through. Asked for a large chocolate thickshake as l have liked them in the past. But today l was very disappointed. They have reduced the size and changed to soft serve icecream and reduced the chocolate. It was small and tasteless and expensive and l left feeling ripped off. Even McDonalds is heaps better but unfortunatly they have a monopoly in Penguin now. We are trying to support local but all slices are 30% more than Ulverstone and many items are stale. No specials at the end of the day as it just sells in next few days.
