Myrtleford, nestled in the heart of Victoria’s picturesque Alpine region, is a country town that feels like it’s been lifted straight out of a storybook. Every inch of this charming locale exudes care, pride, and a serene beauty that lingers with you long after you leave.
The streets are the town’s pride, and it shows. Not a leaf or stray piece of litter mars the spotless roads and pathways. As you wander through town, you’re greeted by impeccably maintained gardens, vibrant with seasonal blooms and manicured to perfection. The hedges stand as sculpted sentinels, framing houses and public spaces alike, and the gutters are so pristinely swept they could almost pass for part of the decorative landscape.
Come summertime, Myrtleford transforms into a hub of tranquil joy. The long, warm evenings are best spent at one of the town’s welcoming restaurants or pubs, many of which boast al fresco dining perfect for soaking in the sights and sounds of this unique place. Among these, Bastoni Pizzeria stands out as a local favorite. Serving up authentic wood-fired pizzas crafted with the freshest local ingredients, Bastoni is a must-visit for anyone who loves great food. There’s something magical about enjoying a perfectly blistered Margherita pizza or a Prosciutto and Rocket under the open sky, with the buzz of the town as your backdrop.
As you dine, the community comes alive in the most charming ways. It’s not uncommon to see ducks casually waddling down the Main Street, as if they own the place, their unhurried pace matching the town’s easygoing rhythm.
Adding to Myrtleford’s quirky allure is its reputation as a haven for Pug lovers. The streets are often graced with the unmistakable snorts and grumbles of these adorable dogs as they patrol their town, tails wagging with confidence. Known for its thriving community of Pug breeders, the area has embraced this endearing breed, making them as much a part of Myrtleford’s identity as its stunning scenery and close-knit community.
And no visit to Myrtleford would be complete without encountering its beloved local personalities, Bowsie, Ish, and Doggie. Read moreWe were excited to dine at Bastoni because of the recommendation of a local. Unfortunately the service experience was sub par. We ordered drinks, calamari as starters, two pizza and a dessert. The server was unattentive at best while taking the order. The starters came before the drinks and we had to remind the server for the drinks. The bottle of sparkling water than came without glasses. The one and only redeeming quality were that the calamari were crisp and nice. While we waited for the main dish we realized that everyone who arrived after us were being served. At that point we asked the server again for our food. When the food finally arrived after 45 minutes one pizza was the wrong order and the other one was luke-warm. The server indicated that we had ordered incorrectly and suggested that we either eat the salami pizza or that she would have to put a new order in for us. Since we did not order the salami pizza we tried to explain that we ordered the "Sofia". She then asked the couple next to us if they had ordered the salami pizza - which they had not. At that point we decided to cancel our order, pay and leave. In a later discussion with the manager we were given a voucher for a free complementary pizza the next day which we can't use as we stay in Myrtleford for...
Read moreWe arrived early to our booking and was told our table was outside, the hospitality was quite uninviting from the get go. We sat down and had glasses set but no water, while we waited over 20 minutes to be served a couple came , sat, and was served instantly. A waiter ignored us 2 times. We called him over and finally got our order taken. Another 30 minute wait and the pizza came out cold. The prosciutto pizza had toppings like they were on rations and it was the same for my partners. Unfortunatly we had to go and complain. Thankfully they were happy to fix it, they made a new pizza and added the suitable amount of toppings although they only replaced 1 pizza but they both had minimal ingredients. Only one girl seemed to care and have any enthusiasm about working here, she was the one who apologised and in the end discounted our check. Overall extremely disappointing considering it was...
