It's a rainy friday afternoon, at the end of a very taxing week so hubby & I looked for a nice new place to spoil ourselves with cake & coffee. We didn't get cake or coffee. My "one star rating" no doubt indicates how spoilt we're feeling. I don't know how old the staff member we met this afternoon is: Insta-ready individuals can be placed anywhere from 16 to 26 years IMHO. The staff member was female, brunette and in possession of an enviable stink eye. This staff member proved that she has come to the end of an even more taxing week than hubby & I!! We ordered coffee & then greviously took a moment to decide over the delicious array of cakes. Ms Insta-worthy huffed impatiently so I asked if we could take the cakes away (and get out of her perfectly coiffed hair sooner). Eye rolling ensued before Madam attempted to stuff two cakes into a packaging made for one. "Alright, don't snap at me" was the response to my request that we have two of the businesses lovely biodegradable/recyclable packagings. "Snap" caused hubby to snort out a laugh. If I truely had have snapped, then Madam would have really known about it 🤣 Madam proceeded to stuff the second cake into a paper bag without a biodegradable/recyclable tray. As I watched my lovely cake crumble into an inedible mess I too snorted out a laugh and told hubby I wanted to go elsewhere. Ms Insta-worthy looked incredulously at my husband and asked him "what's her problem?". Oh, how hubby & I laughed and laughed. Then we went to MacCafe where we will be taking friends & family from now on. I did look for an email address to privately contact the owners about my experience, but they don't have one. You can send them a message on fb messenger or on Instagram, but as you can probably tell, this author is over 35...
Read moreI had my first ever pie in Australia here, what a wonderful memory! 🥹 There are many options in Geelong for pies but Bread Brothers is one of my top favourites!
Keep in mind, this review is from the perspective of a Canadian visiting Geelong, I’m no expert but I do love Australian food! :)
I’m not very adventurous with my pies so I ordered the beef and onion on both occasions. Not too flaky, not too soft, and not too hard. They were just right! The pies here are also the perfect thickness! They’re also not too messy to eat compared to others I’ve tried, they won’t leave pieces of pastry on you or your plate and are a perfect balance of gravy and meat — you won’t have to worry about it dripping or spilling out!
Nothing wrong with a flaky or “gravyful” pie but it’s personal preference!
The iced latte with vanilla is delicious as well, I really enjoyed it! Probably one of my favourite coffees I’ve had in Geelong :)
I’m so glad my boyfriend took me here, he was my personal local guide and suggested this place first — I’m...
Read moreAfter learning that they have started doing half loaves, we have started coming back to Bread Brothers again after going to another bakery further away from home who do. This new change is very considerate of the current financial climate but also supports couples who don’t want to watch delicious bread going stale, don’t want to waste the 2nd half of the loaf and/or don’t love putting it into the freezer (it’s just not the same as fresh). Single parents, couples who don’t eat bread everyday, those with gluten intolerant family members who need less bread in the house because gluten-free fam can’t enjoy it with them.
It’s a win for so many, please...
