I often go in here and it’s usually ok with loverly friendly staff. my friend doesn’t really like it that much but comes with me when it’s my choice of where to go for lunch But on Monday I was a bit embarrassed that for our sitdown meal we had to have our coffee in a paper cup and the food we bought was in paper bags so we had to eat using our paper bags as a plate I know this isn’t always how it is but I will not be suggesting to meet my friend there again I feel quite let down by this fact Did I say the staff loverly anyway but eating our food on a paper bag and coffee in a paper cup was quite disappointing To add to this after the reply I can understand you’re short staffed but the thing is that if we had known we were going to be served in take away cups and having to eat of a paper bag Before we pay our money we probably would’ve gone somewhere else that day Maybe a sign to say you’re serving as take away Would make the difference I’m glad other people understand this and as you point out I don’t Understand but I’m sure if those other people knew before they paid their money they may have gone somewhere else that day as well Remember I bought a friend with me that doesn’t really like your shop but comes anyway because it’s my choice I’m the one that had to put up with her disappointment not you I hope you can appreciate that point of view But I...
Read more(Original) .. Connells is a busy bakery but with lots of space so I’ve always found a table. The service is efficient, the coffee is good and the coffee scrolls just the way I like them with that little bit “chewy” texture. I personally found the bread used for pre-loaded rolls to be a bit too “supermarket” to my taste but, judging by the queues buying bread, I’m in a minority there.
I’m reserving 5 stars for exceptional so overall 4 stars.
(Update) .. Two years ago I gave Connells a positive review. Returning to Wonthaggi and I’ve downgraded my rating from 4 to 3 stars as below.
On the positive, the layout hasn’t changed with tables available both inside and out. The coffee was decent, not the best I’ve had, but not the worst either. The pasty was excellent with flaky pastry and tasty filling.
But an “Aussie meat pie” is pretty much the acid test for a bakery. This one failed - the pastry was tough and the filling was more mince than...
Read moreWell before today I would have given them 5stars. Today staff rude we have been going there as a group at least 4 or 5 times a week for coffee and morning tea and social chitchat over the past eighteen months. I was told at 8.45am that we were no longer permitted to put tables together and to sit at other tables in the middle of the room. We always put the table and chairs back to its usual place. This means sitting in uncomfortable chairs under the air conditioning and not by the window. Maybe they are trying to get rid of the oldies and try to encourage other clientele. Oh maybe it's because we remarked last week on the dead blowflies in the window that have been there for at least ten days. Staff have become very unfriendly and the food is no longer great. Coffee orders always wrong and not hot. Orders mixed up Or forgotten. Or maybe it was the burnt sausage roll that was sold to one of us last Friday. Rude and ruder now. Connells you are no longer a...
