The Caledonian Hotel — Restaurant in Victoria

We came in for dinner Saturday night and were told it was table service. We waited 20 minutes for someone to come over then went up to the bar to order to be told it was table service. It's only table service if you serve your tables! We then waited a good 40 minutes for our steak sandwich and schnitzel to come out. They brought out the schnitzel with no gravy or aioli. We waited 10 minutes for the steak sandwich to come out which had the aioli with it but still no gravy. My partner had to go up to the bar to get it. The food was woeful. The schnitzel tasted like it was off and the steak sandwich was very bland and served on a Woolies panini. The highlight was the chips. We also ordered a margarita which is just a premix bottle and pretty disgusting. The place needs a good renovation. The exterior is beautiful but the interior is a mix of poorly built booths, random chairs and comic...

My husband Dave and I are regulars. We love quiet lunches there. Each day has specials eg on Thursdays it’s Parma and Pot day. The seniors meals are very generous as are the mains. Plus yummy desserts come with them. The food is great and always comes piping hot. The steaks and schnitzels are just delicious and the service is friendly and quite fast. Best of all I’m so happy I am not listening to loud blaring music. I’m chronically ill so it’s hard to find a quiet place to eat. The renovations are really nice too and though the restrooms are old they are clean. The only fly in the announcement is no ramp for wheelchairs and not easy to get to back four from car park. Only because if here’s no car park attached to the pub for handicapped customers. The main one has very difficult gutters to get over and you can’t access the pub from the front because of stairs....

Wow!! I had dinner with family for my son's 21st birthday. What an awesome night. I have an allergy to garlic and put that on our booking note. The staff were exceptional. They asked the chef what food was available for me to eat and I was so so happy when they came back and said that I could almost have anything on the menu. I haven't been out for dinner and had that happen. I ordered the chicken snitzel with chips and salad. The snitzel was so good. I wasn't able to eat the entire meal and was able to take the leftovers home. Everyone that ate with us enjoyed there meal. A couple of us stayed for the band that was playing. All round great night.
