Bakery Heaven For Food Lovers!

Next time you’re passing through Heathcote this bakery is an absolute must-visit. Our family are obsessed with their custard and lemon curd tarts. Perfectly creamy and encased in a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth pastry, they set the bar for excellence. Each bite is a reminder of what makes country bakeries so special.

Their sandwich bar is genuinely world-class. Their generously filled sandwiches are a cut above the rest and with such variety cater to everyone. Their sandwiches redefine the meaning of “made fresh daily.” Every ingredient feels hand-picked; such is the quality, leaving you satisfied yet eager to come back for more.

Despite Heathcote being a crazily busy with commuters on the Boxing Day long weekend, the customer service was exceptional! The team handled the rush of patrons with efficiency, genuine warmth, and a smile, making each customer feel valued and welcomed. It’s evident that Gaffney’s take pride in creating not just delicious food, but a memorable experience for everyone who walks through the place.

Gaffney’s isn’t merely a convenient toilet break stop on our regular commute. It’s an establishment that our family look forward to visiting on our drive through to Melbourne. Incredible food, outstanding service, and that unmistakable charm only a big country bakery can offer—it’s a bakery you won’t...

Just wanted to take a minute to leave a review for Gaffneys bakery. I spent a few days in Bendigo and on my way back down to Melbourne stopped to bring home some pies/cakes from Gaffneys bakery. We were first to walk in at 8am when they opened, I was served by Bronte, and I can not forget her name because her service was beyond outstanding!! She was patient with me whilst I decided on everything I wanted to bring back home to Melbourne (big family and I wanted them to try everything). She bagged up all of my pies, but told me she didn’t want the cakes to get squashed and offered to carry out my cakes to my car because my hands were so full (and she did). I have never ever experienced a service like this in my life, and it should not go unrecognised. Besides the amazing service I received from Bronte, all the pies and cakes were sooooo delicious and I will definitely be returning even just for a day trip to gaffneys bakery with my family! Thanks again Bronte! You are a true asset to the company!

Keep making delicious...

Sorry to say I have only given a one star review and that is only because I cannot give a zero rating. My family has been stopping at Gaffney’s bakery for well over 20 years (both at the old bakery and the new one). We have always been loyal customers stopping in whenever we passed through Heathcote. Service and product has always been top quality. It’s a busy bakery and sometimes crowded but that’s ok. However, yesterday we popped in while driving through and my wife was served the most disgusting cappuccino ever. So bad , the coffee tasted burnt, contained little milk, almost all water with a skimping of froth. So bad that my wife took one sip and it ended up in a bin at the next stop. Coffee isn’t cheap nowadays and there are many more places to get one in Heathcote. Sad to say we won’t be back 😥. On a happy note the young guy who took the order, not the “ barista” is a credit to the business with his smile, good manners and attitude.

Upon entering the countryside bakery store, you will immediately notice the vast array of desserts on display to your left, accompanied by a prominent sign indicating that there is no service area. As you continue to explore, you will come across an impressive selection of family pies, pastries, and a hot pies area where you can place your order. During my visit, I was delighted to discover a triple chilli beef pie that I had never seen before. The staff were very friendly and even warned me about the spiciness level of the pie, knowing that it might be too hot for some. However, as a lover of California Reaper chillies, I found it to be amazing and packed with a satisfying kick. In addition to the pie, I also enjoyed the homemade tomato sauce which was bursting with flavour. The carrot cake was moist and delectable, although I personally prefer it without icing.

We passed by Heathcote and my friend told me that Gaffney's Bakery has the best pie in the world. She bet on it but I didn't think it is until I tasted their pie, it was perfect. I thought the bakery close to our house in Melbourne has the best pie but this bakery nailed it. Their coffee was not great but I didn't come there for coffee anyway. The staffs were so busy and it was already 4 in the afternoon, the only bakery I've seen so busy at the time of the day, but despite the staffs were so busy, they managed to smile at their customers which I great. Highly recommended place if you want to stop for a quick bite on your way back to Melbourne from Echuca. I will surely come back to this bakery on our next trip to Moama. They've won 7 times at the National Pie Competition and that's a testament of how delicious their pies are.
