Golf House Hotel — Restaurant in Victoria

The Golf house was renovated a few years ago and it is clean and still in good condition. I had pumpkin soup as an entree and although it was lovely and thick, not watered down until it resembles orange juice, which I've experienced at some hotels. Unfortunately, it really tasted quite bland to both myself and my husband, who tried mine. I'm quite a good home cook, so was disappointed by the lack of flavour of something as basic as pumpkin soup, prepared by a chef/professional cook. My husband had chicken schnitzel with salad & chips, which he basically enjoyed, although he found the salad dressing a bit on the vinegary side. Perhaps it could have been in a little jug on the side. The menu has certainly been expanded since we last dined, prior to COVID 19. It was unfortunate there was only one staff member providing service. He was doing a great job but was responsible for welcoming customers, directing them to numbered tables. He was also the bar person, taking meal orders at tables as well as collecting meals from the kitchen and delivering them to the tables. We had booked a table for lunch and when we arrived we had to line up and wait for the staff member to take an order for drinks for quite a few people sitting in one of the rooms off the main dining area. After he was finished taking the order, he very politely advised us our table number, and told us we could order drinks at the bar and that he would be over to take our lunch order. Unfortunately, my husband had to motion the staff member over when we had been waiting for about 10 minutes, as he was delayed filling the drinks order he was taking when we arrived. I must say he provided excellent service, its just that he was doing his best to take care of all diners on his own. When we have been there previously for lunch there have pretty much always been two staff members providing service, regardless what day we were there. Basically it's a lovely hotel however some of the food lacked flavour, while some tastes were overpowering. My family and I came in tonight for a spontaneous meal together, to an empty bistro. We were seated by the lovely bar staff, the menu looked good, and the place looked beautiful. We weren't sure why nobody was there 🤷‍♀️ We checked out the reviews on google, and became very sceptical about the place, as the recent reviews weren't very flattering. We've always been people who make opinions based on our own experiences though, so chose to stick around. We placed our order for dinner (which was reasonably priced) with the same staff member who seated us, and began our wait for our food. We were concerned that it would take around an hour based on the reviews we had seen, but were pleasantly surprised when it came out in around 20 minutes. To say the meals we were given were exceptional is an understatement! The seniors barramundi was well portioned, with an entire fillet, large salad and crunchy chips. The 2 parmas (an original with pineapple parma, and a bbq parma) were magnificent. We could add the pineapple to the parma with no issues, and they both came out beautiful and crisp. They even stayed crispy right through until the last bite, unlike a lot of other places where it eventually becomes soggy. The parmas also came with large salads and crunchy hot chips, yum yum 😋 All in all, we're very happy that we stayed to make our opinions, and will definitely be back! 10/10, would...

Mine and my wifes food was not the best. My wife had the scotch fillet that was full of fat, over half the stake was unedable, i had the chicken Parma wich was cold and dry. My wife also orded a squealing Pig Pinot Grigio that is a white win she was given a red Griso, she than said i wanted the Grigio for the worker Mel to just say... Oh and do nothing about it. My mother order a scotch and coke and was given a squash for the same worker to do the same to her. Nothing was done about it.

I went over to get my self a beer the staff member slambed my beer down in front of me and close to through me change at me.

It also took over an hour for our meals to come out. The plates where not cleared untill my wife had enough of waiting for her birthday cake and had to ask for the table to be cleared and have the cake bought out, as we also had children there aswell. All in all i wont be back, this place needs to work out there staff or retrain them, i couldn't work out how the manager was as i come from owning my own cafe there should have been a manager on, on a Friday night, or atlest...
