A big thank you to the franchisee for opening this branch in Ballarat. In an area saturated with bland flavourless food like burgers, parmas and wraps, GYG is a much needed addition.

I visited the Wendouree branch 3 times this week (huge GYG fan). My drive thru experiences varied with each visit and that's why I am leaving this review.

1st visit - The opening day was managed very well despite the high volume of in-store and drive thru customers all day long. I was in and out of the drive thru with the correct order in hand within 5 - 10 mins. Fantastic experience.

2nd visit - The hype had died down a little by the second visit. There weren't many drive through customers but I had to wait awhile to get my order.

3rd visit - The drive thru had about the same number of vehicles as the 2nd visit but it look me twice as long to get my order. There are 2 lanes and a singe operator for both. The vehicles were slow moving and blocking the intercom system a few times. Vehicles behind weren't able to move closer to the system to place their orders despite the operator being available to take orders. This caused delays and it took me 25 mins to get out of the drive thru. After that experience, I got home to find out that the fries I ordered didn't have any chipotle seasoning and the mains didn't have the sauces I requested.

The food itself is fantastic and consistent with the other GYG branches. I understand that this is still the first week of business so the staff are still learning. Please work on the drive...

absolutely wild not only was i given RAW chicken, but upon going to talk with the manager about it the next day (purely just wanted them to be aware of it as i’ve worked in fast food before and know that if something isn’t right, we often aren’t aware until a customer is honest and complains). he lectured me for about 10-15 minutes out the front of the store about leaving negative reviews online about my experience, saying things like ‘ballarat is a small place’, ‘everyone knows everyone’, ‘a review like that can really damage our reputation’. i think this was because i was technically employed there, though i never even did one shift at this store and have never met this person in my life. i initially deleted my review when i got back to the car, but now i am reposting it as i have worked in food and know that this reaction is so so unprofessional. i know its busy. i know its stressful. but i also know that with a slogan like ‘fresh is the new healthy’, stores need to be holding themselves accountable more. undercooked chicken or RAW chicken like i got can cause serious health issues, which is interesting because my boyfriend and i got food from here a few weeks ago and the next day he started to get very sick. he had salmonella and he couldn’t keep food down for a week. we didn’t think it was the gyg, but after getting this chicken the other day and now having a very defensive conversation with the manager, i’m...

I decided to give this place a try after hearing so much about it.

I told the person at the register straight up that I'd never been there before and they were very patient with me as they went through all the options and let me ask questions about each one. I was surprised that I was never asked if I was eating in or getting take away.

After I ordered, I went to sit down but was disappointed that the table was dirty. I ended up grabbing a napkin and wiping it myself.

When my order was ready, they bought it out to me in bags. Call me naive but this was when I realised that it's not a real Mexican restaurant - it's a fast food restaurant like Maccas or Hungry Jacks. You get your food and get out. To make it even more obvious, they only had cardboard cutlery which could not cut the meal I had ordered. I ended up taking the food home.

So, in summary, while the customer service was great and the food was good, the atmosphere was noisy and untidy, the music too loud, the tables were unwiped and the rubbish bin was full.

I think I will visit again in the future but more for a grab and go snack, than a full restaurant meal. I can't wait to try out...

I've gone twice, just to give the benefit of the doubt, but the experience has been incredibly consistent. Even if you order online and arrive when the order says it's ready, you're still going to be waiting outside on the footpath for about 15 minutes. At least. When you finally get the food, it'll be lukewarm, flavourless, and with the consistency of mush. Toppings are nonexistent and do not match the photos; the pico de gallo is a sprinkling of tomatoes and that description is being generous. It's like ten pieces of diced tomatoes. Quesadilla seemed to be stuffed entirely with bland, flavourless avocado and nothing else. It's not worth the cost or the wait. Just go somewhere else. Ballarat has better Mexican food joints.

Really great service staff are really easy to deal with and with how packed the place was they were able to fill orders without any issues unlike most of the fast food restaurants around here so 5 starts for service. The food tasted great we ordered the bowl meals me and my dad had pulled pork and my wife had the brisket which tasted even better than the pork. The only issue I have is we ordered the large meals and the serving size to me wasn’t best especially for the price (cost $61 for 3 meals) it needed to be a bit bigger in size not much but at bit more than what we got. For the large to me it was around a medium size. Other than that we were happy.
