Pretty venue, sadly horrible service.
Service for this place is horrible. Rocked up whilst waiting for my elderly mother to complete an appointment at a local specialist.
The staff were terse on arrival, one girl pointing out a seat in the internal area, when I asked if I could sit outside, quickly in a snappy manner asked “are you going to take a seat?” by another young girl.
When I asked to use their washroom I was waived to a back area to which I used the facilities, upon returning I was asked if I’d like a drink, I asked for a peppermint tea, and proceeded to make my order ready…
And I waited, … for 20 minutes, still no tea (hot water with a tea bag / leaves should not take this long) while others were seated, and orders were taken, and the staff chatted by the glasses / till area only to ignore myself when attempting to get their attention to make an order, but I was quickly running out of time.
In the end I gave up, and walked out, I had limited time, the service was sadly lacking, and sadly to be frank, rude and inattentive.
Not a great visit to this Ballarat business. And sadly, will not be returning to this venue again, I highly suggest if you visit Ballarat medical district to look elsewhere for speedy, friendly and attentive service.
This may have been an off day, but they got-to do better, especially near a hospital, people come to a cafe / restaurant to have reprieve from things and enjoy some friendly and...
Read moreA cafe that needs very little introduction, Johnny Alloo is one of Ballarat's finest cafes. Their food and hospitality clearly showed why they are a must go to place to dine in when visiting Ballarat. For those who are unfamiliar, this restaurant was named after Johnny Alloo, Ballarat's first restauranteur. The philosophy behind this is the high quality of food, keen attention to detail, unique menu, and, as always, great service. After looking at the menu, I can not say no to the CHILLI CRAB SCRAMBLE, with some crispy chips ans coffee on the side of course. I can simply see their philosophy which was clearly reflected on the food they serve. Absolutely perfect. A dish that cannot simply be faulted. Everything was perfect from the fluffy eggs to the spicy chilli oil and jam. Enough kick from the heat to the point you don't need your Kathmandu jacket. Also gotta give credit to the chips. Crispy cruncy. I say it's the best chips I had in a cafe or let alone at a burger place. Owned by local Matthew Freeman, he implemented this philosophy by Johnny into a cafe that is always guaranteed to give diners the great dining experience in food and hospitality alike. This is also shown that the cafe is generally busy at most times, including weekdays. Anyone visit Ballarat must give this place a visit. This cafe, I say, is truly the heart and soul...
Read moreJohnny Alloo was the cafe of choice for a surprise breakfast planned for my birthday! I had the Eggs Benedict and it was absolutely delicious! Honestly one of the best breakfasts I've ever had! Paired with my favourite, a Chai Latte, this girl was living her best life!
With indoor and outdoor dining options, the atmosphere was beautiful and allowed for great conversation and catch up with friends. The menu had a variety of delicious options to suit all tastes and was also able to be easily modified with my walnut allergy. The booking process was super easy and the staff were accommodating and super friendly! I highly recommend Johnny Alloo to anyone visiting or living in Ballarat!
(My partner had the Panna Cotta (also pictured - and so beautiful) which was...
