Our choice of where to have a light lunch when visiting Maldon 23 October 2017 turned out to be a great disappointment.
The Maldon bakery had an impressive list of pastries advertised, but that is where any good impression started and ended.
Only 3 pie types available, chicken curry, beef mushroom & meat pie. It was within lunch time hours we visited Maldon bakery, a real imposition when I asked if possible to please heat a shepherd pie.
I queried why lack of available pies and asked if pastries were made in-house. We were told all baking done at Kangaroo Flat store. I asked had they run out of stock, and told no we have stock however we have to limit what we heat because if it does not sell, it has to be discarded.
Customer service was basically non existent, one of the staff members was downright rude - definitely needs customer service training. Tables & chairs available for dine-in however no plates (only paper bag), and no hot drinks available. The small eating area is dirty / grimy and needs a good clean.
Most disappointing bakery we have ever visited, would never recommend Maldon bakery, a huge disappointment in every possible way.
This review is the first negative review I have ever provided, it saddens me to leave the above review however I am hopeful management will step up and make much needed improvements and stop living off the goodwill of people and history...
Read moreToday we had a very disappointing experience at the Maldon bakery. We went in with such high hopes as in years previously I had declared it to be the best bakery in the goldfields region. After purchasing our pies, we headed into their outdoor area to sit and eat. After sweeping the leaves and flowers from the nearby trees from the surface of the table, we placed our chairs on the uneven floor surface as best we could to feel as though we weren't mounted on galloping horses. Taking a few bites of our chosen pies, we were met with immediate disgust. Fillings that were void of flavour, texture, and visually unappealing. In fairness, my pie contained chunks of real chicken. Also inside was the skin of an entire chicken breast, and what was either small bones, or the quills of the birds feathers. I got halfway through before my appetite escaped me completely. My wife had eaten about the same amount of her own pie. By this point, the only one of the three of us still eating was our two year old. She is famous for her appetite and has been know to raid unattended bowls of cat food so this came as no surprise, but, shortly there after, she too abandoned her lunch. While I can't pass judgement on the sweet pastries I really hope they were better...
Read moreI'm an experienced pie eater and can say without any doubt that two steak and mushroom pies purchased at this bakery were the worst pies I've ever eaten. Much worse than pies that've sat in a gas station warmer for 12 hrs. The whole things were grossly overbaked and had burnt bums. The fillings were dry and unpalatable. I'd have taken them back except I had traveled up the highway while they cooled down. I spat out the last 1/4 on the roadside.. I suspect that the pies might have been left over from the previous day and were left in the warming cabinet overnight... there doesn't seem to be any other way to explain their condition. Quality control was sure...
