North Britain Hotel — Restaurant in Victoria

Dined here last night for a birthday as we heard the chicken parmas are "the best in Victoria". Unfortunatley I was very underwhelmed especially at the $29 price tag. The parma was somewhat small and had no crumb on the chicken. The "napoli" sauce tasted as if it was a pizza sauce paste which was so strong I had to take off the burnt tasty cheese (which should always be mozzarella on a good parma) and scrape off the pizza sauce. If your going to give it the title of best Parma in Victoria it needs to be Big, thick, crumbed, homemade napoli & a decent cheese not your run of the mill shredded tasty. The beer battered chips were okay although thin as pancakes. The setting was great and the two ladies looking after us had great service, replacing our water straight away, asking how the meal was and offering desserts. All in all, great service but take that title away as best parma in Victoria, it had to be one of the worst I have had...

This pub is more a meal/restaurant venue than it is an actual pub - nowhere to sit at the bar and chat to locals though there is a great beer garden/smokers area out the back with a warm fire. The pub it’s self is warm, very typically British and has lots of interesting things to look at around the pub. Service was fantastic - could not fault it. The letdown however was the food. The self proclaimed ‘best Parma in country Victoria’ was overcooked, sauce was too rich and batter was floury. Veggies were cold. Other peoples meals in the party were apparently ‘just average’. I recently had my 50th birthday party at the North Britain. My 36 x family & friends took over the dining room. We all had meals, drinks and the courtyard was in play. I could not have chosen a better venue. My guests loved the food. They kept taking selfies, astounded by the generous servings and quality. The pub's decor was unique and eccentric, and the personalities of the staff were passionate and fun. If you are looking for an authentic venue to have a memorable experience, then the North Britain Hotel is your place. I'm very proud and happy....
