My wife and I attended here for dinner recently. Suffice to say that everything following our order being taken, was horrendously poor. It’s not my intention to dramatise and exaggerate the components of this review but sadly, there was not one single component of our experience at Opa that I’d rate even one star. Firstly, the entrée of the Trio of Dips was the worst I’ve ever experienced. The taste of each was absolutely bland, overly creamy in texture and loaded in garlic; akin to the cheapest brand of supermarket dip that one might find. My main meal of the Open Souvlaki was less than ordinary. For the high price they charge, I expect far, far, far better quality than what I might find at a bad kebab shop. I would’ve enjoyed an open chicken kebab from a nightclub more than what was served to me. Add to this, that after our entrees, my wife was handed her dirty cutlery from the entree to hold in-hand until such time as her main meal was served to her. In this case, her meal arrived ten minutes after mine. Let alone just providing replacement clean cutlery, isn’t it Restaurant 101 to serve two people their meals at the same time (or very close to it)?? It makes for a poor experience when one person’s meal is going cold when in the spirit of being gentlemanly, his meal is not begun until his wife has also received hers. Throughout our dining time there, not once did wait staff approach us once we’d received our mains. Not once were we offered more drinks, not once were water glasses refilled and not once were we offered dessert or coffee. After waiting some time for these latter two things, we decided to leave without pursuing this. We noted also, that even when other patrons had completed their dining experience, their tables were not tidied in a timely manner as one would typically see in a well-run restaurant. On our own table, the dirty plates from our main course were not cleared for the entire duration and still sat after we’d left. When it came to payment, a credit card surcharge was applied to our bill, despite our payment method being a cash payment. This was removed but with some difficulty. We expressed our disappointment in the entire experience to the female owner but she very quickly trivialized our comments and smugly stated “I have one hundred and twenty other guests here who like what we do”. I’m sorry to burst her bubble but we spoke to many local Echuca people throughout the course of our four day stay. Not even one single, solitary local recommended Opa but all had a preference for Sunago, the other Greek restaurant in Echuca. The strongest comment in regard to Opa was “I’ve been there three times now but the service is SH_T!” I truly hope that others have a better experience than ours but as for us, we’ll never return because of the smug attitude displayed by the owner. It was a pleasing and rewarding experience to dine at Riverbank Moama Restaurant the very next day. What an incredibly professionally run outfit they are. It would be my very strong advice that the Opa owners and staff attend Riverbank Moama to see how true professionals run...
Read moreWas down at Echuca for work during the week. Greek food has always been my go-to when I'm out of town. You really can't go wrong with Greek food, with its simplicity and tasty food. However, sadly with Opa Echuca it was a complete disappointment with the food I was served.
I dined solo during this experience, and I can assure you it was probably the worst place to dine in such a quiet and humble town. Food was super overpriced for the amount that you get. I was charged almost $40 for 2 small lamb skewers that is not even enough to feed starving children in Africa. Furthermore, this lamb skewer dish came with nothing else but just 2 skewers on top of some under seasoned "salad". Meat was tough and dry enough to be called rubber.
I ordered the pita bread as a much-needed side for my meal and to my surprise, having dips to go with it has more additional cost to it.
They are very sneaky with how they have created their menu. Waiter is constantly trying to upsell you, to force you to pay more for what you think you're actually getting. I have never felt so discouraged to order food. Let alone lose my appetite just ordering food off a waiter.
Owners would just ignore you if you were dining solo. No one to check up on you and even ask how your meal is going. Calling out for a waiter is almost as difficult climbing a mountain. No one to direct you to the front counter to pay your meal until i have to walk up to a waiter to get their attention.
I hope this review can be taken into consideration by the owners. I will never put a business down for trying to get by in this economy. But to see what is being served and produced as an ex-hospitality worker. I can say this is very disappointing and owners need to second guess with how they operate and the price that they are charging for the amount of quality/quantity is...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at OPA, a modern Greek restaurant that offers a modern twist on traditional Greek cuisine. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the warm and inviting atmosphere of the restaurant. The décor is sleek and modern, yet still manages to exude a traditional Greek vibe.
But the real star of the show at OPA is the food. The menu is filled with classic Greek dishes that have been given a modern update, and the result is nothing short of delicious. From the juicy lamb skewers to the tangy tzatziki, every dish was bursting with authentic Greek flavors. The chef clearly has a real talent for using fresh, high-quality ingredients to create dishes that are both comforting and sophisticated.
But it wasn't just the food that impressed me - the service was also top-notch. Our waitress Irene was friendly, knowledgeable, and made us feel right at home. The manager Josh also went out of his way to ensure that our dining experience was a memorable one. It's clear that the staff at OPA truly cares about their customers and takes pride in providing excellent service.
All in all, I would highly recommend OPA to anyone who loves Greek food or is looking to try something new. The food is fantastic, the service is outstanding, and the atmosphere is perfect for a casual dinner with friends or a romantic night out. If you're in the area, be sure to stop by and try it for yourself - you won't be...
